Could the first error cause a flat battery when driving? I've been having an issue with my car where randomly you'll go out and the battery will be dead. Could this be the cause?

If alternator is not charging or intermittently charging .. then yes that would mean your battery is not being charged and so is flat when coming to restart car.

Battery or alternator?

You want to check the connections under front of gearbox, the wires break and the altenator doesn't charge until you rev to about 3000revs.
It's a common problem and an easy fix if you can solder.

Unfortunately the garage has had a look at the wiring and its not that. They suspect the alternator, does anyone know what sort of amperage the alternator should put out?

Its a 1.4 TDI, not sure on the part number - cars still in the garage!

I have the P1503 fault code on my 1.6 MK2 Leon
I also have the 00668 - Supply Voltage Terminal 30 fault
I put a volt meter across the battery on idle and it was 14.5 volts
I am beginning to suspect the battery but i have no clue.
My battery dies if the car is left with ignition on but no engine running for about 2mins

Any suggestions?

Before you do any thing else, you need to measure the current in the earth lead with the ignition off and with the ignition on but engine not running - be careful with your meter on its highest current range and make sure it has that range protected by a fuse.

Edit:- one thing, is the cooling fan(s) running after the engine is switched off?

It is the big black lead that is connected to the -VE side of the battery.

Maybe take that car to a place that sells batteries and get them to check out that battery (with no obligation to buy a new one from them).
