Constant fan noise? Kinda like water cooling fan...

Hey folks,

I have only noticed this since fitting my FMIC, but when driving it's not audible at all, but when parked up, it sounds like the fan is on, but not quite as loud as the fan, if that makes sense?!

I have changed the 3 fuses on the top of the battery as they had gone and my a/c and were not working properly.
Since doing that they all worked fine.

It is pretty much like the water cooling sound you get when you turn the car off, except its' on even when driving.

At first I thought the car was just hot, but this is even after a 10 minute drive, and the front 2 fans are NOT spinning.

I've also eliminated it being the fan behind driver dash (the small thing!) as I changed that a couple of months ago and it's fine.

You can hear it, when your parked up and the engine is idling, it's barely audible, but it can't be good if it's a fan constantly running...

Any ideas?

No fault codes by the way...

Doesn't the front mounted intercooler restrict airflow to the radiator? This maybe is why your fans are working hard mate

It does mate, yeah, but the fans arent spinning when this noise is happening, so it's not the sound of a hot engine, seems more like the secondary water pump noise, going off at all times.

is it taking a long time to heat up or the temp gauge going up and down in traffic and driving could be your thermostat stuck open so engine will be constantly trying to cool itself...

Just thought i'd update this thread - still that noise happens, it would be interesting to find out exactly what it is, when you turn the key off... If you listen you can hear it literally 'continue' to when the normal secondary pump runs...

So it's definately got to be the secondary pump running constantly during driving, instead of just when the car is switched off after a drive...
