Considering a Cupra ST

I do about 14k a year, currently got a FR 184 SC,
The ST looks the perfect size for me plus it looks absolutely gorgeous!

For my mileage it seems the Cupra will cost in the region of £700 more a year to fill up which isn't too terrible.

Plus the brokers are doing very good discounts on the Cupras, only makes them marginally more expensive than the fr's due to the Cupra standard kit.

Does anybody else run a Cupra with my mileage?

To add to this, has anyone else upgraded from an FR to the Cupra, how did you find the change?

I've got an FR 184 SC and I'm in two minds about switching to a DSG Cupra, I only do about 7k miles a year so fuel costs aren't a big issue for me.

Hey guys, it's like this forum was made for me to reply to lol As of 2 weeks ago I swapped my 184 FR for a Cupra 280, do about 15k miles a year and currently have a ST cupra for the weekend while my alloy wheel is being repaired.

Brobbo, I'm quite lucky as work pay my work mileage which equates to about 7k miles a year. So I'm only left to pay the 8k miles a year and haven't had the car long enough to look at full on extra costs. However, in the 2 weeks I've had it I've noticed that cost per mile for fuel on the cupra is about 16/17p per mile compared to my 184 which was running around 10p per mile.

JK, I was unsure about taking the leap from FR184 to the cupra, but not one part of me regrets it. You kinda go from warm hatch to hot hatch and the car handles like completely different beast. You've also got the joy of petrol noise, twin exhausts, diamond cut 19inch wheels, bit lower and just a generally sportier looking car. Test drive one, I loved my FR but the cupra is just a different kettle of fish :)

Oh and Brobbo, the ST is a gorgeous car. Only had it a couple of days, but if I had a family and the need for extra space, I'd have one in a heart beat :)

if the CST had come 4 months sooner i'd have jumped on it. currently on schedule for around 16.5k miles by next march but expecting that figure to drop once the novelty of driving random places for the hell of it has worn off a little :D average cost so far (3,500 miles) is around 16-17p per mile

Ah, madduffyx prepare for more questions!

Is the comfort suspension on the Cupra softer/the same as the FR? I kind of assumed Comfort - Softer than the FR, Sport - the same as the FR, and Cupra - Harder than the FR?

Haha no problem.

I'd say comfort was probably on par with the FR. I think the 19's balance it out.

Amazingly I've never had it in sport mode haha. It's either comfort or cupra lol!
I can give sport a try tonight and let you know :)

What I have noticed is that it seems a bit more refined inside. My FR was one of the first 3 doors so I'm not sure if they've tweaked anything but my cupra seems to be a bit quieter inside, even though it's running on 19's and not 18's.

Really appreciate your reply, you've pretty much sold it to me lol
I haven't got a family but I do love big cars, I'd go as far to say that the estate is actually prettier than my sc 184 I currently have.
Plus you have the size to carry 4 adults comfortable with all their luggage.

No problem Brobbo.

I'd actually agree with you on that one. I've had it since Thursday and every time I look out the house at it, I find myself thinking hmmm I maaaybe prefer it ever so slightly to my SC. However, I'll probably get mine back today and think otherwise lol

Very true, rarely is there anyone else in the car other than me and my fiance but it is rather handy for those times you do have people in the car and also need that extra boot space.

Can I ask where your from as Jennings in Middlesbrough is where I've currently got the ST from.

That seems pretty good price! If I was ever going to buy new again I'd go through something like DTD :) The estate I've got just now is Dynamic Grey. If you want any pics just let me know and I'll pop them up on here!

Can we get a pic of the dynamic grey? Currently got red, but it shows up the stone chips too much. Was thinking about the Nevada White, then again I was last time before I changed my mind at the last minute!

Thanks for the reply madduffyx.
How do you find the revs/acceleration compared to the diesel? I've been driving TDIs for over 10 years now, the last petrol I had was a 2000 Seat Ibiza mk3 1.6, used to noticeably lose power just putting the air con on!!

Dynamic grey + black pack is on my wish list.

Just need to half my annual mileage and I'll be placing an order.

Please post a few pics madduffyx

Here's a few of mine

This one is next to a nevada white cupra so you get a bit of a comparison

Here's a couple of the ST, unfortunately because I've only had it for a couple of days. The weather hasn't allowed the nicest of pictures of it :( Just a couple while I was doing the weekly shop lol So I don't think these give it the justice it deserves....

You'll notice the dynamic grey looks different in most of the pictures lol Brobbo, yes it's very much like a pearlescent.

It is in with my detailer next month for a £400 stage 2 correction (swirls from the detailer) and a ceramic coating. After visiting him, he can't wait to get his hands on it because of the colour. Thinks it'll look amazing once done :)

Thanks for those. Looks a bit more blue than I was expecting. Still not sure... :)

What colour did you go? Or did you stick with red?

Haha, sorry to cause confusion! It's because I've not updated my signature (which I will do now) I originally owned a Emocion red FR 184. Until a couple of weeks ago, where I traded it on for a dynamic grey SC Cupra 280 (the one in the pics) Due to the wheel being scuffed when I bought it, it is currently in repair by the dealers and they kindly gave me the ST Cupra 280 as a courtesy car. Hope this makes sense?

I love the colour, it does look a bit duck egg blue when it's cloudy, but then has a more white look when the sun is out lol
