Depends on your budget mate. Why so interested in changing the back ones? I took mine out when I put some Mac Audio's in the front...

I have a 3dr and went to the effort of changing the rears to some 8" mids and I wish I hadn't bothered. Thought it might help give a fuller sound with vocals, etc just coming from the front - but doesn't seem to work like that.
Just spend more on the front components and disconnect the rears.

Rainbow are also pretty useful too - range from about £100 upwards.

My guess would be you want something with a decent RMS (I'm assuming you've got an amp already set up?) and a wide frequency response range.

greetings folks,

sure enough I am looking for some good speakers for my SEAT as well. I already replaced the HU with the Kenwood KDC-W7534U: http://www.incarexpress.co.uk/view_product.php?partno=KDCW7534U

I was really close to buying the Kenwoods KFC-PS1700P Component Speakers for the back but luckily I decided to do some research first. I understand that you can fit 16.5cm speakers in the front and back? Would 17cm fit in the front? for example the KFC-PS1700P? http://www.kenwood.eu/products/car/speakers/component/KFC-PS1700P/

Would I need an amp for these speakers? If so, how strong?

I was also looking/thinking about getting a Kenwood 4channel 800W amp, hooking up the component speakers up to two of the channels, and bridging the other two and connecting a small sub... anyone have any thoughts/comments/ideas?

Oh, sorry for posting in your thread mds1256, but I figured since we are both after the same thing it made sense to post here.

I don't mind spending a bit of money for a good sounding system :)

cheers folks

okay okay, this may be a bit way off, but what if I were to stick to 8" subs in the rear panels? say perhaps from Boss Audio:

There is enough space for the speaker itself, but would the sound/bass be any good coming from that metal "enclosure"?

My problem is I would really like to get some bass in the car without having an extra enclosure in the boot.

I used to have an 800Watt Audiobahn sub in the rear of my Spacecab pickup, but that was just overkill on the bass :)

okay, so so much for that idea :(

What's the mounting depth of the front speakers? Just had the back cover off it and like 16cm of space behind the speakers :)

If I plan on running the speakers on an amp anyways, does it matter if I get component or coaxial speakers?

Okay folks, I know I'm asking a lot of questions but I just want to be sure to not lose too much time and money in this. So, in about 5hours I will have ordered some Focal 165 KP's for half of the original price :D. Apparently they were used for a year, but I'm hoping they are not damaged, the guy selling them only has good reviews.

So, the question(s) are, should I go through the trouble of installing them in the front doors of my Ibiza, and move the current front speakers to the back, or just install the Focals in the back. I have (had) the Alana Sound System in there so the front speakers are actually pretty good, the back ones just blow. The HU has been replaced with a Kenwood KDC-W7534U.

Will it sound ugly to my ears if there is more sound coming from the back then the front?

And now the last question is, the Focals are rated at 80W rms (160 peak), what size amp should I get so that they sound good? Here are my options: http://www.toppreise.ch/index.php?k3=443&manu=&filter=#comparison

Anything that is not found on that page is hard for me to get.

I really appreciate any info and/or tips you guys can give me.

Definitely put the Focals in the front. You could swap the original fronts for the rears but do you ever drive sitting in the back? It won't make a HUGE amount of difference IMHO.

With an amp a lot of people dump the rears altogether - I have. Decent set of fronts and a subwoofer is all you need to get a half-decent system.

There's a hell of a lot of amps to choose from there - come back with a more specific budget? Basically make sure you're looking at the RMS wattage (peak/max power is utter bull).

The simple fact with car audio is you get what you pay for - if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

okay thanks for the info, so I guess now I have to find speaker adapters for the front. Can't seem to find any for a Ibiza 2004. Only find adapter up to 2001 models...?

About the amp, well, I prefer not to put in a subwoofer, at least not at the moment. Budget, hmmm, not over SFR500, so not over 300Euro. If possible, i'd get a 4 channel or 3 channel amp so that I will have the option to add a sub later on if possible to run from same amp.

I assume that since the speakers are 80w rms, the amp needs to be at least 80w rms per channel right?

btw, the focals are almost mine :)

Anyone ever had a Crunch USA amp? I can get a second hand Crunch V-4300 for about 100 Swiss francs. It's won a few awards, etv. Here are the specs:

V-4300
4 x 150/225 Watt max. @ 4/2 Ohm
4 x 100/150 Watt RMS @ 4/2 Ohm
2 x 450/600 Watt max./Peak gebrückt
Abmessungen: 262 x 52 x 423 mm
UVP/EUR 289,00

I could also get a second hand Alpine 3549 for 200SFR.:

Okay folks, so here I am again, so now I have found myself looking at the following amps and can't decide, I don't have any experience with any of them:

Alpine MRP-F550:
http://www.alpine-europe.com/typo3/index.php?id=mrp-f550&no_cache=1&L=1&tx_comproductcatalog_pi1[show]=features#ridercontent

Blaupunkt VA4100:
http://www.blaupunkt.com/de/7607792110_main.asp

JBL GTO 75.4:
http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/products_id/2911.html

Crunch GTR 350.4:
http://www.12voltshop.eu/eu/index.php?main_page=product_info&language=en&products_id=9659

Or then old school with this:
Alpine Class A 3558 (although this only has 40W RMS and I will be running Focal 165KP's..)
http://my.ricardo.ch/accdb/viewItem.asp?IDI=509162090

So what's the best or worst choice? Any suggestions.

I had a crunch amp - it was shite. Flogged it to my g/f's boyfriend and his crappy Fiesta.

The figures it quoted were pie in the sky nonsense - every time I try to crank it it just overheated on me and, yes, it WAS wired properly!

The Alpine and the JBL are more reliable (I have a JBL mono block now). Should be able to get a useful Infinity amp for that price.

IGNORE max power figures - they are for chav scum and pre-pubescent teenagers and mean nothing. Try and find out what fuses (and how many) are in the amps - that's a better guide to their actual power.

the fuse power rating times by 14.4 is the actual power it will deliver... give or take a few numbers... still loads of amps out there are very good even with low power output... and sound good like the genisis range say that there stuff is about 200 watts... but is like the top range car audio....

thanks for all the info folks. I'm really trying to figure everything about before buying stuff that won't work or isn't good. So that leads me to the next question, my car battery at the moment is rated at 12V 44Ah. Is this even strong enough to power an amp like the ones that I mentioned above?

Both the Blaupunkt and Alpine amps have 2x30Amp fuses.
