On the motorway today coilpack went.

After watching the AA guy fit a new one (which he luckily had in the van) i know i could do it myself.

I have read on here before that once one goes, the others are likely to follow.

Where is the cheapest place to get them?
Should they really be genuine parts or does it not matter?
Should i just replace the other 3 now, or just have them in the car for when the next one goes?

Thanks for your help guys

Ben

GSF are pretty good on price...but make sure you get genuine ones. One of mine went about 3 months ago and the engine light flashed up for about 2 secs then went off again. You probably missed it...but when connected to vagcom it tells you which one has gone. haven't had another go yet.

If you are feeling minted then there's no harm in replacing the other 3. On the other hand there's no harm in not replacing them. I see no point in replacing when they could still have a few thousand miles left in them, so have a couple spare in the boot for when the next one goes.

OK thanks.

I have looked at GSF and vwspares, both are at £25.00 a go.

Ill see what my local garage can do, if not it'll be one of those.

OK nice. I might wait until pay day and then get a spare one just in case. Keep in the boot.

Hi guys what are you talking about 3 of them? I dont understand lol Can you please explain? Thanks......I heard coil packs are a common problem with these and they just need replacing when they go? What do they cost usually from a dealer?

There are 4 coil packs in total...one for each cylinder. b1nuzz had one of his four go and was asking whether he should replace the other three.

I guess they are a common thing to go, but they are easy to change. My first one went about 45k miles. Now just over 50k and (touch wood) the others are still going. Have a search. They are around £30.
