Clutch switch or clutch slipping?

Hi dudes. Last few days I have had intermittent moments between gear changes, mainly 1st-2nd & rarely into 3rd where the revs have increased or flared. I've read that the clutch switch is a good start as not high gears. I phoned the garage & they insist it sounds like a slip. They are going to rant it about tomorrow & let me know. I am just concerned that he wouldn't even entertain that it could be the switch. In other words pence or hundreds of £££. All gear changes are smooth enough. Any experience of this would be great!
Many thanks.

If you think you have slippage...you probably have.
Put it in 6th at 30mph and floor it...you will see the revs pop up? Clutch slipping.
Don't let a mechanic rant it about because it will go a lot quicker after they are done with it.
Any mechanic wanting to rant/rag it about to find out should be told to f#ck off.

Agree with Andrew. No need to rag it about except to speed up the malfunction.
Like when the dentists stick that pick in a hole. Wiggle it about to enlarge it and then move on as if nothing happened. WTF.
Another test is hand brake on engage first gear lowish revs and lift clutch. If it doesn't stall it's slipping.

Agree with both above. The sixth gear and pull is the best one imho.

Old school method for clutches was start the car up, put it in second and then slowly drop the clutch. Same as above but always known it to be second gear rather than first. why??? End result should be the same. Stall - clutch is still working.

Thanks dudes, really appreciate your sound advice. I will use all your tips this morning & hopefully have a better idea of what is going on. I must admit, like you said about the garage, they are very keen to push it. I get on alright with them, but don't trust any garage fully! I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks again.:)

I did your tests, & the clutch was fine. I then took it to the garage and after a road test the mechanic thinks the clutch is in the early stages of slipping. It is fine for now, & as I said previously, it is intermittent so I'm not going to make any rash decision. He is emailing a quote but expecting about £500 :( there goes any hope of fun stuff! It needs a bearing replaced in the gearbox too, so naturally they are keen to add that to the bill. Cheaper to buy another at this rate!

If it was mine I would wait until it is a major issue. Clutches can last for a hell of a long time with that 'on its way out' feeling. I had an Accord Type R for a number of years and the clutch was borderline. It ran for a good three years as was and felt no different. When I got rid of it eventually I said about the clutch and for the fact that it had been like it for quite some time.

Clutches are massively a grey area imo and something that can soldier on for quite some time even if it could do with replacing.

Just a personal opinion that's all.

Thanks mate, that is what like to hear! :) Just wish I could spend some ££'s on the fun stuff & not keep shelling out or saving for fixes. Still, like you said, no point worrying about it until it's almost fwkd, & hopefully that will be some time away! ;)

Just saw this.
Yup Husband of Stinky is right. Brain was on a go slow. Been years since I tried it. It should be second gear!
