This fault is happening to my car at the moment :censored: , it will be the 6th or 7th time it has happend in the 5 years I have had the car [:@] , it has only done 60,000 miles so why it has to have a new cylinder every year is beyond me. I have not had to pay for it to be replaced yet as previously the car was under warranty, not sure if the garage will fix it again for free but last time it was fixed they assured me it would not happen again but sure enough just over a year since is was last fixed it is starting to play up again. :censored:
Does anyone know for certain if it will be the Slave or Master Cylinder, last time I had the fault I was told it was the Master Cylinder that was replaced and thats whats at fault not the slave cylinder was I being lied to because the garage did not want the bill of sorting the problem out properly? could replacing the master clyinder and bleeding the system cure the fault for a short period, maybe the reason for the fault returning is because the actual fault was never properly fixed.

Anyone have any input?

sorry for stealing the thread but it's the same fault

Ben

A local dealer to me said the same, that is was the master cylinder but I don't trust them, if it was the master cylinder you would see brake fluid leaking down into the footwell or at least see it behind the clutch peddle! Since the dealer looked at it, it has been fine so have not had any work done to it yet! Could it be that they've fixed a minor fault and then said that the master cylinder needs replacing to earn £150??

I had a look and feel behind my clutch pedal earlier and I got some fluid on my finger not a lot and around the master cylinder also looks oily so it could be that at fault (maybe.......)
If I depress the pedal it feels like the problem is also from the master cylinder if that makes sense????

I will speak to a guy I know who works at a Skoda dealership tomorrow and see what he says before I call the SEAT garage that has tried to fix the problem so many times....

Had it confirmed today by a Skoda garage that it will be the Master Cylinder that is at fault, I explained the symptoms and he said it was the master cylinder without even thinking of the slave cylinder, I also phoned the dealer that has fixed  the car in the past and they have replaced my Master Cylinder twice before so that kind of confirms it. The last time it was replaced was November 2004 1 year and 3 months, the dealer got in touch with SEAT UK and they do not seem interested in repairing my car for free even though I have had the problem come up several times, they have said they may be able to do something as a good will gesture but I have to get the fault diagnosed by a SEAT dealer, I have not been in touch witha dealer yet to find out how much that will cost but I bet it will be near the £100 mark, I might as well fix it myself
I know the car is 5 years old now but it has only done 60,000 miles, it really
:censored: :censored: :censored: that the same thing keeps going wrong, oh and SEAT deny that it's a common fault.... I don't believe it. I was thinking of starting a poll to see how many VAG cars have been effected by this problem, atleast then we will know if it is a fault that should warrant a recall......

Anyway think I have ranted for long enough, might be better if I fix it myself anybody know if it is an easy job to do, looks like the Master Cylinder is easy enough to replace, I take it you have to bleed it through the nipple on the gearbox can that be done manually or is it a pressure bleed only???

cheers

:D

SEAT Dealer quoted me £150 to replace master cylinder!

Well I would llike to thank Marshall SEAT of Cambridge for not helping me out with my fault, even though the my Clutch master Cylinder was replaced in November 2004 it is 2 months out of Warranty so they are not interested in Replacing it even as a good will gesture because they know I have had the problem with the car from new, well they have now lost a customer and I will not be buying another SEAT :p . Marshalls did phone SEAT U.K who in turn told me I need to get the fault diagnosed by a SEAT dealer and that costs £80 per hour at MArshalls even if they diagnose the fault as the clutch master cylinder SEAT U.K might be able to do something no promise what is the point in that?????? think they just want to put me off... :censored: and it has worked.. I am looking at getting it fixed at the Skoda dearlership that I know.
:bleh: to SEAT

P.S Marshall want £200 to do the job and they charge around £75 for the master cylinder
