I'll let you know on noise as mines being fitted on 30th...

I'm happy with a little bit of extra noise knowing the smf is a little stronger and should last the life now.

As its only SMF as well its slightly lighter as well than standard which means prob an extra .5 hp lol.

Anywho wish me luck with it all

"a little bit of extra noise"?? I wish you lots of luck :p

I have a Spec clutch and SMF (the exchange rate was really good at the time, so it would have been daft not to), and although the clutch drives brilliantly, it's one noisy SOAB!!!

Made a vid for you earlier...sounds A LOT worse than it actually is as its a fully encosed car port...but you can get the jist.

You can hear the difference with and without the clutch pedal pressed, and then how the clatter stops once you start giving it some revs

hope it helps

I tell you what if you went to Calais with that thing and started it up, the french would instantly surrender. They'd think the English were tank rushing them!

hmm dont know would still like to make mind up in flesh , but that does sound a little too loud for me

It does sound louder than it really is, but it does still make people think that the clutch is knackered :)

I love the clutch, but hate the noise....but the pro's outway the con's.

Currently run a Helix clutch and SMF. As skullmunki has stated, the pro's outweigh the cons by far.

Yes you get noise when on tickover, and im not going to lie, it is loud. End of the day though, you didnt buy a diesel because it sounds nice.

An SMF is not necessary. Yes its never going to have the potential for failure like a DMF but you are at the same point never going to be putting too much power through it whereby you're going to require an SMF.

Most of the big hybrids are still running on DMF's.

Depends how you drive it. My car has seen many a harsh launch, which would do the DMF no favours. Look at the ones running DMF.
I would say its a fair assumption to make that their cars arent given as much grief.

It's not just the prolonged life that made me go this route either. Ive driven a car with an uprated clutch and DMF. It drives noticeably different.

For better or for worse?

The previous post was to emphasize the point that it is not absolutely necessary to go single mass. If you're worried about a hard life or the state of the existing DMF then just replace it with another new DMF when replacing the clutch.

Your mechanic/tuner should be able to advise you of its condition and whether it should be replaced with the clutch.
