Clutch Pedal Snapped & Welder Needed (Manchester)

The clutch pedal has snapped on my Girlfriend's Cupra. She was AA recovered little over half an hour ago.

The guy has recommended that it is welded but although there is a guide in the FAQ section, I am not very mechanically minded and I don't have the tools.

If you were local, I'd show you the motor anyway mate! I just want hers fixing ASAP as it's been an annoying week in terms of cars. My Cosworth engined Westfield (bought only a fortnight ago) is having teethng problems and troubles starting so that's going back on Monday.

nice set of cars you've got there for sure. no good at welding but any other problem you may have let me know also have vag com and aint to far away so would allways scan the cupra or rs6 for you

How to Enable Auto Lock/Unlock Using VAG-COM

• Plug VAG-COM Cable and start up laptop
• Open Up VAG-COM, and go to "Select Control Module"
• Select module 46 - "Central Convenience"
• In the Advanced Options section, click on Adaptation - 10
• Open Channel 3, change the value from 0 to 1 and save
• Open Channel 4, change the value from 0 to 1 and then save.
• Close the controller, and close VAG-COM.
• Take your key out of the ignition - You should hear your doorlocks open (or try to if they already are)

nps can give it a try let us know if works seems to be alot about ti on net so sure would get it to work on yours. hope you get some 1 to sort cupra by looks of guid could get the clutch bit out and just get weled up some where.

Is it not better to buy a new pedal box then get it welded up better than VAG made it - maybe adding more material, then attack the reason why this pedal box failed - ie the route cause - probably the pivot shaft bush and or the the clutch plate has become "too hard". Maybe after fixing these two parts you should fit a new genuine VAG clutch cable as it will now be a bit suspect after surviving overuse just prior to the pedal box failure. That is if you are wanting to sort this out properly!

Oh, I've just noticed that it is a Cupra so no cable problem then! Just get a new pedal box, then it welded up correctly and maybe stiffened even more - could still be due to clutch pressure plate problems though!

Yes, I'm not too good on cars but the RAC guy said that it's hydraulic. There's a guide in the FAQ section and a lot of people have had this issue and fixed it by welding it up better.

Supposedly it's a common fault because SEAT just did one small spot weld on it.

Further to this thread being posted (started back in Sept) the Ibiza has been sat outside our house without moving until Monday. It has been sat for over six weeks!!!

In short, we got the pedal off and had it welded and because I am hopeless with cars, my friend helped to put everything back together.

It has been a right pain, as we have been looking it at on and off and doign it in stages. There has been a lot of head scratching, trying to get it done and then getting stuck (and my mate is good with cars!). I've needed to buy a new white position sensor/switch, new clips for the end of the rod and a few other bits. That aside, getting the spring in has been a right pain; we've even had the seats out etc. to allow us to access the area - so to say the least, it has been a pig of a job but it is now all back together... well - almost!!!

Now onto the problem - the car moves and drives ok - but there is very little movement in the clutch. It is pressing down a matter of a few inches and not properly springing back up fully. Now I am not technically minded but what is happening is on the pedal (where the weld was made) it connects with a piston-type-thing which pushes in to engage the clutch. There is a gap here of a few mm and so the pedal can pull up and down and tap/rattle onto the piston thingymejig. Sorry if I am not describing it very well...

Basically, I took it to a garage who suggested that this gap and limited movement is probably because there is a bush of some description that goes there. He said that this is why the pedal isn't springing fully back up.

Any ideas? I am at my whit's end with it at the moment.

Does it come back up if you pull it?
Mine has done this on/off since changing pedal but comes up if I pull it with my foot and clutch works otherwise.Bloody annoying.
Wondering if its the master or slave cylinder - which ever that piston goes into as ould piston be slightly bent?

There should be a white plastic clip in the pedal (where it snaps and gets welded) is that in there? the rod sits in it

Not really sure about all this mate, but if you want me to pop over with mine and then we can look at them both and see if anythings missing or not sitting right on yours compared to mine i don't mind doing that, hopfully could just be something simple thats easy to spot if there side by side

AMC, there's no white clip so I'll look into that... Gonna get it over to SEAT as soon as I get a chance.

That might be it then! the clip goes inside the small "box" that the rod sits in, holds it all in place!!!!!
