Had my heater on full heat last night, and the fan on full. When stationery the fan seemed to keep speeding up to maximum speed and then slowing down repeatedly until I set off moving again.

I am baffled by this, is it a fault?

Any advice would be great thanks, and Merry Christmas :D

I would think its something to do with your RPM mate, i have noticed this also, i wouldn't say its a fault, when the car is using more power i think the fans will decrease slightly. I have also noticed this with the headlights when i rev the car (they dim slightly). Not too noticeable but i know its there.

If the fan sounds louder when reverse is selected, it's because the climate automatically switches to recirculate.

However, it sounds like you have the same problem that myself and many other have had.
It mainly happens to me when approaching summer temps, either when:
1) I start up, or
2) I slow down and stop at a junction or traffic lights etc.
The fan just starts having a fit; stopping, startimg, ramping up to full speed, stopping, etc etc etc sounds really stupid.

TBH I doubt you'll get anywhere with the dealer, but you never know. Maybe one day we'll find the answer !

thanks for the replies guys very helpful as usual. Ironnically I had a 2000 W red'd Vauxhall Astra Van at work, that did the same, it didn't have climate, or air con. If the van was idling, the speed of the fan, would suddenly speed up and die off like in the Ibiza, but once moving it was fine. I wonder if the alternator isn't kicking out enough oooomph when idling to provide the power needed for the fan?
