Clicking noise from the back of the car

Hi everyone! I’m the happy owner of a cupra formentor e-hybrid 204cv since mid June. A few days after I took delivery of the car, I noticed a clicking like noise coming from the back of the car everytime the road (fyi Italy) twist a bit. At first i tought it was something on the trunk but after a few test in wich I took out everything from inside the trunk I realized the problem is not there. The noise is like tapping a table with a pen and it’s driving me crazy. It doesn’t happend when I hit potholes but only when the road is “bumpy”. The sensation is like the chassys is twisting...
I’m sure, being in Italy, if I take it to the dealer to check they will tell me it’s 100% normal and fine. Does anyone of you has had the same issue? I’m kinda disappointed that a 36k€ car squeaks like a plastic chair in a hot summer day

hi Deva86
i have the same issue on my Formentor hybrid 204: after 2k km the car starts to make this orrible tic tac everytime i pass on bumpy road… i try everything but nothing worked; i don t understand if the noise comes from the roof (glass), from suspension or what…
did you solve on ur Formentor?

bye

I've started noticing a clicking sound on the drivers side seems like it's just behind me when driving. When I was parked up and with sun on the drivers side it seemed like the door/window was making the noise as touching the top right drivers side window and the various attached panels around the window the sound was similar.

I can hear it coming from further behind so I'm assuming the rear door is doing the same and it's movement and expansion in the sun?

I'm hearing other random noises, the most common is a random single thud/bang usually when driving along. Nothing alarming but enough to make you wonder what it is but I can't place where it's coming from other than behind me!

The source of these annoying unwanted noises can be very difficult to track down - especially when you’re driving and you have no one else in the car to be a second pair of ears.

When trying to locate unwanted noises, I’d always recommend taking a passenger out with you so you can concentrate driving while the passenger is that extra pair of ears to do the listening. They can also sit in different locations in the car and apply pressure to interior panels and pieces of trim that are suspected of being the source of the unwanted noise(s).

Alternatively, if you have a named driver on your car insurance, get the named driver to do the driving while to the listening and apply pressure to the panels and trim.

I wrote also a thread regarding this.
I could reproduce the pop sound by hitting upwards the roof side of the door opening, then pull from the roof bar. Maybe the bolts holding the roof bars needs to be tightened.

I’ve got strange noises coming from my V2 which I’ve had for a year now.

1st noise: when I’ve got the windows down and I’m driving steadily, I can hear this constant clicking sound.

2nd noise: like a few that have mentioned they hear a knocking sound when driving on an uneven surface, I too am experiencing this. I live in an area with a load of speed bumps so I am forever hearing this.

I live quite some way away from my local Cupra dealer so I haven’t gone in to get them to check it out!

I forgot to go and check the roof. Although driving earlier, it did sound like it was up there.
Will report back when i have… 😂

I had some weird noise coming from the back of the car last year when it started to get cold. My wife was driving on the bumpy road and I was checking everything at the back. From the seats to roof and trunk and nothing was working. Then I came to idea to turn that black thingy on the trunk door to make them "stick out" more and it worked 100%. I guess the metal got squeezed from cold or something and trunk door became a little bit loose and it was hitting the chassis of the car on bumpy roads. When you open the trunk door you will find those "screws" on the left and right. The noise coming from that was driving me crazy for like two weeks:)

Those rubber bump stops not extending out far enough is a fairly common cause of unwanted rattle noises from the boot / trunk area on VAG cars; if they’re not making good contact with the small black circular pads just above the rear light clusters (circled in red on the picture below), then the tailgate lock assembly (circled in blue) can rattle against the striker pin (circled in green) when the tailgate is shut.

Another common cause of unwanted rattle noises from the rear of the cabin in VAG cars with fold down rear seats is the seat back latching mechanism on the rear seat. The seat back latch can rattle against the metal striker loop when the seat back is in the upright position if there’s any free play between the latch and the striker loop (striker loop is circled in the picture below - the picture is of a mk7 VW Golf estate, but I dare say the Formentor uses the same seat back latching mechanism as the Golf and other VAG cars). A quick and inexpensive fix is to wrap some electrical insulating tape around the striker loop to remove any free play between the latch and striker loop. If the tape does eventually wear away as a result of the seat back being regularly raised and lowered, then it’s easy and cheap to replace.

Ah no way!
I havent actually got mine back yet to report, it was supposed to be yesterday but a commitment got the better of me. My fault… ill check that later! Sounds very likely if the “stone in suspension” isnt the culprit!

Thanks @SRGTD & @st4niu!

Unscrewing the little thing has fixed my problem, hopefully this issue doesn’t come back but I at least know how to fix it, thanks a lot!
