So, my gloss black B pillars are absolutely caked in horrible swirl marks. I've been looking for solutions. I could buy new trim, get it wrapped in carbon like others have done, or have a crack at polishing the scratches out. But:

1. Buying new trim won't help; the new trim would get scratched over time too;
2. I don't like the look of carbon wrap on the b pillars;
3. Polishing the scratches is a fool's errand, as point 1.

So, I've decided in my head that the best way to solve the problem is to get clear protective film installed on the trim; specifically ScotchGuard 3M. In my head, I can see this covering up the swirl marks completely in the same way that a phone's tempered glass screen protector hides scratches underneath.

Am I right in assuming this? So just to be clear, I'm going to get a clear protective film (wrap) installed over the glossy black b pillars, because I think this will eradicate or at the very least lessen the appearance of swirl marks?

I'd polish and use a clear wrap or a good wax on it and just accept it needs attention.

When my cupra is due next month and will go in for a full detail and ceramic coat in December which will protect all the paintwork and plastics.

My VW has these piano black plastic covers on the B pillars. Yes, they do need attention, but not too often if you have a good car washing technique.

A quick machine polishing gets rid of the swirls. Then careful washing, using the 2 bucket method, a lambs wool mitt and patting dry with a car drying towel keeps the swirls at bay and limits the amount of re-swirling. Automatic car washes, the dealer complementary service wash or supermarket car park hand washes are a no-no if you want to keep them looking good.

So if the OP knows anyone with a machine polisher who can do an initial correction, they're quick and easy to maintain from then on.

Gtechniq EXO and crystal serum light are the products I've been told to put on piano black to get a swirl resistant coating.
