Cleaning Exhaust Tip

I gave the car (red lcr mk1) a quick clean yesterday evening and noticed that my exhaust tip was in pretty bad shape covered in a black soot which has proven very hard to shift!

I tried a normal cloth and washing up liquid, but no joy. Then i tried wonder wheels applying with a small brush followed by more elbow grease with a cloth which seemed to remove some of the blackness but not all.

Im looking to shift the black stuff from the rim and inside.

Any tips on what to use? Will post pics later.

Thanks

some 00 grade wirewool and a decent metal polish, then buff with a microfiber. I use mequires metal polish.

If you have tar spots that wont shift, a decent tar/glue remover like autosmart Tardis will do the trick.

The main issue for me was the black rim insetad of the shiny chrome finish. Wasnt so fussed with what it looked like inside.

After: (using CIF, cloth, warmish water and plenty of scrubbing!)

The CIF worked much better than i though, the rim come up very nice, still got some work to do inside the pipes, but for now its pretty nice.

Autosol is a tried and tested metal polish. I've never used it with wire wool but I would say keep it in reserve if a cloth doesn't clean it enough. Again I've never tried Bar Keepers Friend but have some in the kitchen cupbord that I'll try on my LCR's tip.

I've just order my self the Britemax Twins

'Britemax Easy Cut Metal Cleaner & Polish and its twin Britemax Final Shine Metal Polish & Sealant.'

Anyone else used these products read some good things about this product and seen some Awesome results from pictures I've seen of the results it achieves. Price at 9.00 each and if it achieves the results I'm hoping it be well worth it :)

Originally known as Metal Masters, this product was sold in the US to truck and bike owners where there are serious amounts of metal to polish where it has gained a great reputation.

Once they arrive I will update on it performance but for now this is what they should hope to do/achieve.
