choosing remap

Hi, i know theres loads of threads about this but i can really find what im looking for. I have a 2001 ibiza cupra 156bhp. It has just over 62, 000 with fsh so running pretty nice, however i want more power especially after going on the 1/4 mile at inters. Im looking at either and custom code or a p torque remap, both offer similar gains at similar prices. Which should i choose on past experience, also i am a little concerned whether or not it is a good idea getting a remap on a car of this age, will the extra power wear anything premarturely. I know these are strong engines and are probably underpowered to start with anyway. I have a catback stainless exhaust and jetex replacement airfilter, will these make much difference to gains. sorry about all the questions, appreciate your advice, thanks. Kieran

cat back exhaust wont make much difference at all as the bottlenecks on the ibizas is the CAT & down pipe

the panel filter....maybe 2-5bhp

fairly stage 1 - so you are looking around 200bhp max from a standard k03 on your car

dont be blinded by which tuner can offer the most power, they will all yield similar results (dyno lottery will be the hero of the day here)

62k on your car is absolutely fine.

remapping will wear your clutch out alot quicker and other parts as well - tyres to say the least

remaps can often brake parts on a car, not because of a fault with the remap but the extra power just merely highlights parts which are already on there way out, but the power accelerates their deterioation

my preffered tuners are:

Jabbasport
P-Torque

dont go on price of a tuner either, go on good customer reviews, product support, warranty and a company which has the financial backing to troubleshoot issues with your car along with the technical facilities to do so

hope this helps

remaps give the extra power yes and do aid the driver to a point down the strip

but its the driver and their level of skill which sets the time

When I was at pod I ran a 13.9 in my Ibiza - running appx. 240bhp

I was beating scooby drivers who were running in the mid 15's - clearly showing the level of the drivers skill required to get good times

its not all about the power, its how well you manage to put it down

If you are thinking the extra power will all of a sudden give you much improved 1/4 mile times, then IMO this is wrong, its how good a driver you are which sets the time
