Hey!

ive just changed all the spark plugs and one of the coil packs as it was misfiring the other day, and when ive restarted it the engine management light has come on solid?

The car is running smoothly and i cant see and obvious problems, im guessing it must be something todo with the emissions as the old plugs were knackered!

Any help??

mines a 1.4 sport, like i said i gave it a good thrashing and it sorted it out! i cant c y it would be different for polos as they're the same engines!

thanks for the reply,

what sort of thrashing did you give it. supposedly only the polo 1.2 had the problem, not the 1.4.

I basically took it through all the gears to the top end revs. this gets the engine nice and hot which hopefully removes any unburnt fuel ( this is y the light comes on as the emmisions and fuel mixture alter so flags up as an error) this is what I did hope it works for you!

thanks for the reply,

you rev it up into the red regions?

what do you mean by the emissions and fuel mix alter?

i think i did rev it up at some point, the ECL light disapperaed and has not come on for the last 2500 miles or so

i took it close to the red regions but not in them, i just wanted to get the car and exhaust hot!

as for the emmsions/fuel mixture, i ran the car for a shourt journey whilst it was misfiring and this put unburnt fuel into the exhaust plus the spark plugs were knackered so prob dint work properly, so by getting the engine hot it removed all the crap that had build up. the build up of this crap means that when i put the new plugs in it told the ecu that the fuel mixture was incorrect as it detected the crap already in the system!

thats what i assume happened as it fixed the problem!

thanks for the reply music_man

so you
1) ran the car around to get rid of the crap
2) replaced the spark plugs

in this sequence and this fixed the problem.

cuprastoo, i did not thrash it as such, but ran it with the light on, and then AA turned of the light and then after a 1000 miles it came back on. VW said there was a major ptoblem which would take x hundred pounds to fix, AA again said no problem. AA turned of the light and i drove for 3000 miles, no problem.
