Change bushes or whole wishbone?

I was advised today during a service that my front wishbone bush on the drivers side is needing changed, quoted £100 by the dealer.

My query is would I be better of just to change the whole wishbone on both sides that way I'll be getting new bushes all round and I can do this myself which will save some money.

From doing a search it seems that the bushes need to be pressed out with alot of force and I dont have the tools another reason for just changing wishbones.

Whats your views. Need this done A.S.A.P as it's apparently severely deteriotaed.

Cheers

would like to know this as my bushes on wishbone look like they could do with being changed, saw on another post they had posted a link to vwspares for the whole wishbone CLICKY can anyone confirm that its the correct one for LCR and would it be better fitting the TT roadster mounts?

Most likely at work
i have a worn bush too. i was just thinking of upgrading all my bushes to powerflex, the charge i was qouted was mainly because they have to lower the front sub frame, so i might as well get them all replaced while theyre at it. could be something you can think about too

Yeah Might have to end up doind that, but just wondered if the was a full wishbone same as the one liast but for the LCR and it would be simple unbolt and attach new one. Would save so much hassle

you can buy the wishbone with the bush on the wishbone or you can just buy the bush on its own

If hastle is your main concern then get someone else to do it for you and buy the wishbones with new bushes in them.
If its cost thats you main concern then DIY but you will need a burner/heater and a press/large vise with adaptor for pushing bushes out

Yeah I can fit them myself, but was just wondering if anyone knew if they did a entire wishbone and mounts for LCR?
Think I will phone Dave at Sere's motors and see if he can shed some light.

If you can get the wishbones off yourself then you are halfway there, just get a garage or somewhere to press the old ones out and the new ones in.

You don't say which bushes in the wishbone but I would imagine its the rear ones, i changed mine in my cupra to the cupra R ones from vwspares, i did order the front bushes aswell but the new ones looked different to the old ones so i didnt change them.

I would like to change all the mounts if I was removing it, may aswell go full hog.
What other mounts are worth replacing aswell as wishbone ones?

Just replaced top mounts and bearings today. Bit of a pain in the arse but its done :)

Do both the bushes as you have said, then it's done and you don't have to worry about these again.
Uprated engine, transmission and dog bone mounts would be the next logical step. These help the cars feel under hard acceleration and deceleration.

Thanks, I have looked and cant seem to find an entire mount so will get the rear TT ones and OEM front ones, anyone got proper links to the correct ones to get as I had a look and there seemed to be a couple of different ones.

Dog bone mount was changed yesterday when doing the top mounts to the THS one, very good mod, when undoing the 2 bolts to the subframe I snapped one, managed to get the mount out then luckily it turned in my hand but the screw was bent must have been put in like that from standard  least its done now.

Are the drop links worth replacing?

Not too sure of the numbers. Go into Audi and ask for a MK1 TT roadster wish bone rear bush. When you get it make sure it has solid rubber between the metal outer and inner. The OEM ones have rubber webs, these ones are the only solid ones

There are different drop links to be bought.
This is a different set up to my LCR so not too sure of the merits of this.

Just contacted Dave from Sere's motors and you can get the entire wishbone including bushes for £75 delivered, I ordered the front bushes from him were £16.40 for the pair delivered and got the TT bushes from VW spares for £25.59 for the pair delivered.
