Your sig refers to Jabbpower which is an IHI turbo, which I have not looked that much, but I know some swear by them because of how responsive they are. I am intrigued.

Some bed time reading for you on Songman's car
http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showthread.php?t=74707&highlight=songman

There is a Big Turbo discussion forum and quite a few different turbo's have been tried by forum members

Songman has the full JAbbasport BT conversion, IHI Vf34 turbo and lots of other bits too....

GT35 is a huge turbo but reports indicate that the GT30 works well on the 1.8T....time wil tell.

Ibizacupra on these forums is having something special put on his 1.8T at the moment..........be interesting to follow those results ;)

I'll be picking up my 1.8T GT30 on Friday so will hopefully be able to let you all know what I think soon enough.

Hi,

Its the ignition timing thats causing the hassles at present if we can iron that out then hopefully she can put the power down. When she was on the 1.3bar setting with the new leads we were seeing good boost at 4000rpm and its beginning to show me just how quick she is. The hesitations in power are however worrying so its going back to my mapper again 2day to see if we can resolve the issue 2day.

The setup of the car does work well together to be honest, give it time :D it was its first time since the build it had been mapped. Its a high up the revs setup suited for the bigger turbo, as I said before the exact same setup was used with the t-78.

Deffinetly didnt mind getting trounced by your car songman, that car is a sight to behold! If I had to do it all again my setup would certainly change, I bought the car with the big cam setup so I had to stick with it during the rebuild. Deffinetly once shes all sorted we could get that descreate location and see how far behind the celica will be again:D , we are only about 5mins away from each other.

Yeah I think you better... or get a turbo from the GT series with a bigger number and more bhp... those arent fuel injectors he has in that Celica, more like turkey basters. Your only immediate hope might be Nitro, otherwise you will need to spend an aweful lot to top that.

Your car looks sorted, but I think his Celica when sorted might leave the unmarked super-modded police Octys for dust.

I am currently trying to get hold of some pics off a friend out in Vietnam. He just dropped a Supra Twin Turbo engine into an old BMW 3-series chassis... knowing him he has modded it a bit. Probably not to anything like the Celica, but Supra engines are quite big and old 3-series are quite small... I can't see much else getting squeezed in and it certainly would shift if it does.

Thanks songman and everyone else for the kind comments and id like to say that again what an engine in the cupra it felt like everything was working together and the setup has been so meticulously thought out, spot on loved it!

Well my friend Paul has found what our problem was, I was running around 13 degrees off, thankfully it was retarded! A full mapping session with Paul and the car is amazing, a total change as you can imagine. We are running a nice conservative 1.5bar boost and its holding nicely, and running a nice rich map with a lot of potential for more power with more advance but for now shes fine. I cant thank Paul enough for his mapping services! Obviously the dentist must have thought id setup all that but even then id have thought he would have noticed the hesitant boost and lack of power. The torque now is amazing, which id have thought he would have noticed we didnt have! Obviously he is payed to map not setup everything else which is totally my own fault which is why I have to write off the cost of that mapping session. My car now has a Paul Bartolo map in her now and i'd recommend him to anyone, he maps DTA, MOTEC, Greddy E-manage, apexi fc. I am over the moon with the car now can't be happier, what a difference from the T-78!

Wow! - I breathed a sigh of relief for you when I read your post - 13deg out with the timing! - no wonder you were making so much heat and backpressure - I can imagine that you are more than a little miffed at leaving a mapping session with all that expensive kit so exposed to disaster:headhurt: -that dentist man must have had toothache when you were there:confused: - anyway thumbsup to Paul for saving the day!!

Will be really interesting to hear how you feel about the GT35 setup for road use after you`ve settled it and run for some miles.
We have some guys trying new kit - Eddy H has the GT30 soon, which should be a rockship,Bill Badger has something new up his sleeve, APR`s stage 3+ is now on the cards, and I know of two other new projects near completition - it will be very interesting to see the data on all this new kit and assess its overall viability - power/torque/ road performance vs running costs/fuel comsumption/reliability and the like - it will make it a lot easier for anyone contemplating a change in turbo

I`m pleased that your car is now going so well, it certainly is an amazing bit of kit, with massve potential!! - I would love a wee shot in the passenger`s seat if you ever have a spare min. it must be mind blowing - perhaps you could send a contact email to [email protected] and i`l come back to you later - i`m off to the annual GTI `hootenanny` at Brunters this weekend!
cheers:)

No problem Songman we'll arrange some time and you can see the difference in setup. I got bored of the T-78 power but the power from the gt series is totally different, its a fairly big turbo the GT35r but with the car totally setup correctly now(no thanks to the dentist boost obbsessed ways). Pretty annoyed at someone so experienced being so ignorant to how my car was performing and his solution was to fling as much boost as possible at her! Can honestly say she wont be back there! Arrived at his house at half two was there till around after 8-9 not once was I offered anything, food or drink, while I fitted the new boost solenoid I had to buy from him as mines wasnt good enough for him to get control(fensport managed it) he went and made himself some lunch and watched the tv(thats just ignorance when im paying him £350!!!!! Anyway im running a Paul Bartolo map and im over the moon with it.

When you are talking about miles to the gallon, I think you would be surprised at how good these cars are if they are mapped correctly. For example Paul runs A gt4 aswell with a DTA management. Paul has mapped it on 95ron fuel and at the rollers last month she made 460bhp on a t60 non-roller bearing turbo, now he has a new Gt35r coming this week we are going to compare the differences between the two. Mines runs on constant optimax and his on 95ron.

You speak of the GT30 getting fitted to one of the cupras, I had a look at this turbo before I bought the gt35 and general consensus was that you loose very little down the bottom end by upgrading to the 35 and gain very much up the top esspecially as the boost rises! Power and torque of the gt series turbos is second to none in my opinion, reliability seems to depend on how well you look after the car and maintain it, torque plays a big part in reliability, things like diffs are not going to be able to handle to much for to long. I have to say road performance now properly set up should be fairly good I mean off of round abouts in second gear shes not long in finding the boost, if it was the T78 still on there id have to be in first gear!

1781cc pumping a GT35 is asking a lot of it to spool.... takes a fair few rpm's worth of engine airpump flow to get it going, but once up it will zing no doubt.

The 1.8T does benefit a lot from a bit extra cc in the bore and indications are longer stroke as well will spool bigger turbo's much sooner than 1st thought.

Well its up for sale so I can move on to a supra in standard form to allow me to save up some money to move out. Songman if you want to meet up sometime let me know i'll take you out in it, allow you to see the difference and we could get it side by side with the cupra now if you like, think you will be quite surprised how well she goes now at 1.5 bar after shes been properly mapped.
