Hi,

My celica just came back from a mapping session last night running a GT35R major engine build costing thousands of pounds running a motec engine management. Expected power of 500 plus, previous T78 turbo power was 555hp. Anyway, a yellow cupra past me going quite fast, it was the first car I thought cool I'll have a go see what this mapping session has done(thinking see how far I can leave this cupra). Well wasn't I in for a surprise, the cupra nailed it of the round about and totally(not slightly TOTALLY inialated my just mapped GT35R) I have boost of 1.5 bar at 5000 rpm but its pretty flat before that but that cupra was amazing a sight to behold!

Thanks to the bumbble bee, a top bloke a nd a top car. Thanks for the small passanger seat drive, the car has boost at 3000-7000 an absolute dream car. I have had fast cars since the age of 20 and that car is the most impressive i've been in. So smooth on the road and the boost is incredible. I have to admire the work under that ingine bay. Big thumbs up to the cupra guys!!!!! I want one

The car missed fired in 4th as it hit 2 bar and hit the ignition cut, this is beside the point though as the cupra had a smaller more useable turbo with a more efficient turbo. By the time the gt35r was on boost the cupra was already many car lengths in front and the GT35r wasn't able to lesson the gap created, bigger doesn't always mean better my lesson learned. She is going to be mapped again tonight to iron out my ignition cut issues and she feels like she is holding back like there is a lot of back pressure building up. But believe me the car is 500plus :D quarter mile times of 11.1 0-60 in 3.4, shes just run in and that was her first map and we have issues to resolve but hopefully that will be ironed out soon.

Yeah I am in Scotland the car was a jabba sport engine, an awsume car and the guy couldn't have been nicer(once he new it wasn't it cop car behind him hehe) :D

Just done a search there thats the man! big thumbs up and thank you to him. The setup is so well thought out and and the turbo choice is spot on! The turbo is just amazing, the power band is so wide, anyone thinking GT35R forget it, the turbo on the car still pulls high up thats what amazed me. If I had useable power in the band of revs songmans does i'd certainly not be changing just for the 5000-8000rpm that the gt35r gives me at the moment!

Other than putting in a big turbo and motec engine management in, what did they do to ensure your car got enough cold air, and what did they uprate the fuel injectors to cc-wise? Is the fuel pump uprated? Fuel lines? Sounds like something is wrong somewhere in addition to the turbo lag.

I know some large number bhp cars dont make as much torque as they should, but this sounds a little extreme.

I think you should talk to some of the more experience big turbo guys in the big turbo forum. Your turbo sounds starved to me.

I must have got lucky last night - Obviously there was something wrong - that `Dentist` man is just the guy to find out - the car will be awesome no when it`s properly sorted:D

Great to meet you to and that fantastic car, spent the full day telling people how great the setup on that car felt.

Took the car to a friend a tuned in mapping, we seem to have a few issues to over come but its getting there. It was the fuel cut I hit the other night thats where the massive pop came from:D , we had it out again and found she didn't want to go anywhere fast  so a changed set of leads seemed to aid it slightly. We now have to find out why there is a constant fluctuation in power and why im getting no top end power. We think the ignition timimg is retarded and thats why my exhaust gas temps are getting really high, but there is no det. Boost has been set at around 1.3bar and after the lead change its a hell of a lot faster than it was at 1.8bar, but as I say we still have to sort the lack of top end power and stop the hesitant fuctuation we have at the minute.

Love the bumble bee absolute machine!

Cheers mate and thanks for the post - you`re a gent and a darn good sport too!![B)]

The post is interesting for us here because as we`ve never met before our chance encounter the other night, and it really just shows folks what can honestly happen!!

As you can read, some of us are contemplating different turbo sizes - don`think anyone here is as ambitious as to go for a GT35, but it was very interesting to hear your views on turbo sizing and your opinions on my setup

Your car is fantastic - do you have a link for us with some pics? - I must urge caution to you until it is set up properly - you obviously have serious mapping issues, and with all that power potential, a blow up at this stage would be easy and disasterous.

Might I suggest that even when properly mapped the Celica/ GT35 combo may well be a tad to extreme for general road use

Why not use it as a track day weekend special, join the club, get yourself a second hand LCR as a daily driver and have a BT conversion fitted - don`t want to depress you more but I forgot to tell you that my car even in its present state of tune will turn 26/28mpg in daly use - I`m a bit of a Jabba man myself but I`m sure APR JBS,Brembo Bill - all found on this forum - would all be pleased to set you on the right path.

Finally, as you are such a good sport, once your car is fully sorted we`ll meet up again at an `appropriate location` and you can redeem the GT4`s honour and leave me in a cloud of dust - we`ll video it!

cheers:)

Maybe... but this thread is about him getting toasted by you, so what are you running?
Maybe he has the best parts, but they don't necessarily work well together... there's alot more thinking needed than just bolting in a GT35R kit and hoping for the best.

What distance di you guts race over... on a 1/4 mile if you are running a smaller more effecient turbo on your Cupra, I would expect you to win as the smaller Garrett turbos are far more responsive. Your sig refers to Jabbpower which is an IHI turbo, which I have not looked that much, but I know some swear by them because of how responsive they are. I am intrigued.
