Not at reduced brightness and during day only. I have auto lights so when dark and rainy etc then normal dipped beam on. its just during day and with country road driving a light at the front to improve visibility to others is better. i dont want yo blind anyone and as an ex biker i know the importance of some illumination even during the day. they will work just as good as as if the other drls out there. but as with anything there will always be different schools of opinion on this. im not going for the lets have fogs on to be 'cool' brigade. i want it to be safer for me and others so i can be seen.
Have you seen how bright some standard DRLs are ? They are bright as heck ! Isn't a fog light a different beam pattern and thats what blinds people , not how bright they are ?
I can just see it being a hassle with cops/people thinking you have your fogs on when its not foggy. Great if you can get them on by themselves (will just look like DRLs) but i could only set mine to be on aswell as my sidelights. Sent Carista a qwery and they told me to send a data log and i havent heard since.
At the min i just have my sidelights on (including rear) though the DRL setting , but it's no difference in me just flicking the switch
I just want the fogs on no other lights at the front or rear lights. On Carista I think the setting is first to set headlights as drl and then to select fogs as drl in the second drop down menu. This on the Pre FL puts it in North American setting so that the fogs only come on without any other lights when the handbrake isn't applied. With handbrake on the drls go off. I guess for facelift you want the lights on a North American setting and then to select fogs to be used instead of dipped beam. This way the only lights you will have on is the fogs where as the setting you have currently is the Scandinavian setting with is front / rear lights and or headlights and fogs depending on what you choose. It should be able to be configured on Carista but you might need VCDS. It might need for you the change the country setting which changes the configuration of the exterior lights so you can get it how you want it.

1) Scandinavian mode: Dipped headlights, side lights, rear tail lights and number plate lights. Automatically come on/off when the ignition is on/off.
2) North American mode: Dipped headlights only. Automatically come on when the handbrake is released (with engine running) and off when the handbrake is on.
3) Fog lights that are set to perform the role of DRL's (normal lights off = DRL's on, normal lights on = DRL's off) but at a reduced brightness/intensity.

See i toyed with the idea of putting LED bulbs in the foglights as DRLs but gave up after failing to get reliable sidlight ones that didn't show errors after a few months.

I think leds would be nice but maybe a fairly white output bulb like mtec or diamon vision. Leds are ok but the FL is more sensitive to bulb errors
