havent long had my LC. Just changed all the filters a work yesterday and found the filter was in the bumper and very dirty.
I have taken it off as was very worried about my gf driving through a puddle and sucking up water.

u should get the cleaning liquids and the special protectant oil for the filter ... i also have a Carbonio kit and its set up with full pipes so the filter is just behind my left fog light ... and i live in Saudi Arabia where we have lots of Dust and heavy rains in winter ... my workshop told me not to worry ... just make sure every service u clean and oil down the filter and like Tris said avoid deep water, mud or lots of dust.

I was running one for about a month until it sucked in crap in the bad weather and killed the MAF sensor so I put the filter back in the bay with a good air feed.

My son had one on his Golf for 4 years
We live in Sheffield too , with lots of flooding
No issues there

He has sold it now though :(

His was not the Carbonio , but same design and fitted same way

I have one also no problems so far - although the filter is dirty

been thinking about getting a spare to have clean one ready to go as they are a pain to get off

It's pretty daft of the previous owner to be driving around with a carbonio kit and no arch liners!!! thats asking for trouble. At least you have the sense to take it off until you put some liners back on.

As for replacing the filter, i'd stick a jetex on the end, brilliant filters.:)

There is the link with a couple of pics
We tend to keep these in all the time , one of my fav little bits for the 1.8T , that a 007p and a remap....would keep me grinning all day and night
Only fit during summer months though , cos my son got his fitted in winter , not nice driving artound for the next few months with the windows down LOL :cartman:

Jetex are cracking filters too
They are cotton gauze , so really Green , K&N and Jetex are all cotton gauze

hi m8 that would have a large impact on spray , its the wheel arch liners that would , if you look behind your wheel , if you can only see suspension and brakes , and a balck background then you have the liners ,
if you can see other components engine wise then theyre not there

i woulkd get the centre bit tho helps with the handling etc

the only problem i have is in the mornings , when i pull off there seems to be no guts in it to shift so have to dip the clutch to get going , not sure if its cos theres no air sucking in straight away

also heard you can get filter socks any more light on the subject
cheers
