hi guys, i took my car for a spin earlier, once i had stoped and tried to restar the car it wouldnt, after 4 or 5 time trying i managed to get it going but it was reving up to 2,500rpm on its own and when i put my foot on the gas the engine would die and then just about pick up again but very lumpy.
so i unplugged the maf, the revs dropped and i plugged it back in and turned off the car.

after this it started up fine, so i took it for a drive with no problems, parked up, turned the car off and then back on again and the same thing high reving.

has anybody had this before.i should add that all of yesterday and today it had been lumpy at idle and rugh when cold

thanks david

Looking at your previous posts - have you changed anything recently?
You've mentioned lumpy idle, upping the boost levels, and fans running on startup.
Do you have any error lights on the dash?

From all your issues, I'd recommend getting VAG-COM and scanning your car for errors, something doesn't sound healthy to me.

Perhaps worth checking all connections to MAF/coilpacks, spark plugs - but VAG-COM would help point you in the right direction.

no, i havnt changed anything, but i have only had the car 4 days.

the car is 100% standard.

my first line of thought was the maf, i will check all the connections tomorrow.

when it did this the firt this this afternoon it was just after a blast up through the gears and the fuel light came on, could this be anything to do with it.

thanks david

I'd only be guessing from this point on - but perhaps if your fuel light came on, and you have, of course, got a tank of petrol, then I'd suggest that the car thinks it's not getting enough fuel through. Perhaps a knackered fuel pump, fuel pressure regulator, or something?

I'd not drive the car at all with the problem until it's resolved.

hi guys, i have got vag.com now and have run it on it for the last few days.

firstly the car hasnt been messing around over the last few days, after i found a large pipe that had come off under the manifold and since replacing that pipe its been fine, but today it started doing the same thing, wont start and when it does the revs are all over the place and as soon as i touch the accelerator the rev drop and it dies, also i should add that during my drive tonight i noticed that the turbo wasnt spooling up as normal, infact there was almost nothing there.

when i pluged it into vag.com it came back with the same thing it has done a couple times now.........

4 Faults Found:

17705 - Pressure Drop between Turbo and Throttle Valve (check D.V.!)

P1297 - 35-00 - -

i have looked but i cant seem to find any more split pipes...

please help...

I had a similar thing happen years ago. It turned out to be the cam/timing sensor, which had got knocked during a service, it cost about £50 to fix. It might be something stupid like that or could just be a blockage. Locate the pipe it says on vag-com and just replace it.
