Focus RS horrible daily driver, you wouldnt want to do 10-20k a year in one of them things, they are built purely as weekend raly cars

The only criticism I've noted for the Focus RS's use as a daily driver is the LSD tugging sharply when going over bumps at speed.

Not massive craters and stuff, just man-hole covers and crap. They do say you need to concentrate all the time when in one. But then again, wouldn't that be advisable for any soddin' car at any speed?

Focus RS rules.

i disagree.
my mate had one and there is just no way to drive one of those things comfortably, its jerky both in acceleration and ride. the brakes are also extremely sudden as you might expect, same with clutch. a really horrible day-to-day car imo.

Did he not have a bit of a shonky one? (Don't mean to offend by that comment, obviously).

I've driven two, one of which was a 400 mile round-trip. I'm a real driver-driver.. so although the soddin' thing did give me a head-ache through the traffic.. I really enjoyed it. No one ever said it was smooth, I guess. Then again, the RS brand has never been a simile for comfort and cruising.

I can see your point though. The brakes felt dispondent until under some foot-pressure and it was very jerky in 2nd. Felt as though the turbo couldn't quite decide whether to boost or not. :S

Jesus man.. you're turning me off the FRS! Sod off!

Lol.

Jus think the LCR beats it hand over fist as a compromise between powerful, fun-to-drive, modern hot-hatch and daily run about to the shops, pulling out of junctions, roundabouts, stuck in traffic kind of thing.

In some aspects the FRS is a better car, but definitely not as a daily driver. Even the ST3 has it beat as a day-to-day livable motor.

As a track car the FRS is certainly the better choice, but if I was looking for an unpractical racer I would probably be thinking phase 2 Clio V6 over the FRS anyway!! At least with the Clio you know you are sitting in something a little bit special, the RS isnt exactly an exciting place to be, even with all the power it harnesses.

I'd have to agree there are cars on the road that give you more sense of drama.. but the FRS was an instant classic. £20k with no optional extras available. Brembo, Sparco, Quaife etc. all as standard parts. It was basically a road-going rally-car for the enthusiast.

The Focus ST has no sense of bravado about it, for want of a better word. They're common and they run a 5-pot T5 engine. The power-advantage in the ST over the RS doesn't make sense.. an extra cylinder and a further .5 of a litre displacement.

I don't know.. I'm a die-hard FRS fan. They have great road presence and the flared arches look great.

This site has desentisized me to the LCR.

I still think the new CTR would be an interesting choice.

3 things about the new CTR

1; looks gorgeous, simply stunning
2; ultimately not fast enough
3; not enough room to modify or improve engine (you would do well to get it past 225bhp which is of course what the lcr is completely standard)
