Can anyone help on how to dismantle and replace mirror?

I woke the other morning to find my door mirror and casing had been damaged - and stolen!

Having obtained a couple of extortionate quotes for replacing it I thought it would be better to purchase the whole unit, sprayed, online. ( I used the wingmirrorman )

If possible I would like to replace only the mirror and the casing - since the in inner mechanism is intact and working. I understand this will be 4 parts in total. Does anyone know how I can dismantle the mirror unit to remove the coloured shell (trim) etc, and fit it to what’s left of the mirror on my car?

While I am here, my car is now over 80,000 miles. Does anyone have advise on what I need to think about having looked at/replaced?

Thanks for reading.

Cheers for such a swift reply, and images, that’s exactly what I was after. Thing is, I have unscrewed the thing but it’s all still together and I can’t see how to unclip it...?

It’s a Seat Leon 1.6 s, 52 plate -‘03 but older model. Sorry, thought this would display under profile details.

if you are on about the cover that pulls directly upwards just watch/remove the glass if you can but will clear it and they are quite stubbourn

mirror frame itself is mounted from inside the door

I ordered a mirror casing from seat for mine last week, as mine was broken when I bought the car. I'm away from home at the moment and as I ordered something else at the same time I can't remember how much the individual part cost but something to the order of 16 quid rings a bell. I'll be home in a couple of days and can check if it's of particular interest. Brand new part from seat comes unpainted tho. I'll probably be getting my little brother's mate in a bodyshop to paint mine for a few beer tokens.

Per your other question..

At about 80k, you need to make sure the cambelt has been done, if not, get it done asap, and while ur there, get the water pump and tensioners done.

Other than that, keep an ear out for knocking noises. Rubber bushes in suspension components will start wearing out, none are that expensive to sort on their own, but if you fail an MOT, and have to get them sorted there and then, it'll be a lot of cash all at once.
