For anyone that doesnt know 8v'rs this is important and can prevent a whole load of running issues.

On the 8 valve engines you need to time up the distributor pulley (edit; i believe this is only engines with the dizzy on the front ie not on the top/side of the engine) also, as well as the usual cam and crank pulleys.

If this isnt done and the distributor pulley is out of line you can get the 5k limiter issue, and like my car, dire terrible running like you have a one litre corsa!

Make sure the garage knows this, basically so they line up to TDC on cam and crank, and then line up the marks present on the top of the crank pulley with the mark on the distributor pulley.

when i did my 8v gti couple of years back i didnt know this doh, wouldnt idle. i figured it out and fortunatly had took a few photos with my phone before removing the old belt.

16v's dont have this problem as the cam drives the dizzy.

if you get a picture of the engine bay i could probably tell you, i think the dizzy is on the end of the cam though ( at a guess ) always worth checking the timing of the dizzy it can cause hesitation and all sorts of problems like that even though the car appears to idle fine.

yours runs off the cam so as long as cam and crank are lined up thats about it.

if they werent timed up correctly i reckon youd have very crap idle and running.

Just found out from a good mechanic that the other garage had the dizzy pulley a tooth out, and also that they tightened the tensioner anti-clockwise instead of clockwise.

One thought here, it costs about £7 but on the autodata website you can buy cambelt instructions, might be worth doing this if doing yourself or even if a garage does it so that its done correctly!
