My cars done 64k and its a 2001 model. I've been recommended to get the cam belt and tensioners changed. Is this recommended at this milage? If so, does it matter if i get it changed from a local mechanic. I'll get the kit from GSF website. Any places/sites you can recommend getting the kit from?

Seems like cam belt change is required according to other threads. I'm gonna get this done from my local mechanic however I will supply him with the parts (want to ensure the right stuff is put in). What bits and pieces do I need to get? I was looking at the following from gsfcarparts.co.uk:

13050 CAM BELT TENS SET LEON > AQM 030 000
13119B CAM BELT

I have been told to get the water pump changed as well:

17062C WATER PUMP LEON 2000> AGR,AHF,AGP,ALH,ASV,AQM

Does it really matter which cam belt is installed? Are there different designs and quality available?

Christ - which dealer is that? My stealer wants 500 notes for a cambelt service and that's not including the water pump! Mind you this is a PD TDI - dunno if that makes much of a difference - and it also does include the 60k service too...

Hi,

I had my cam-belt done a few months back because the water pump went and it cost about £500.

I would have the water pump changed at the same time as the cam-belt needs to be taken off to change it anyway, but make sure you get the metal impellor water pump version as the plastic one is prone to fail (like mine!).
