my leon fr tdi 170 is on an 06 plate and in july is 4 years old and due its 4th annual service but only done 31,000 miles is it worth leaving the cam belt change untill the car is 5 years old and maybe on around 40-45,000 miles ? or do you recommend that 4 years is bang on and would be too risky to leave ? also does anyone know what the usual price for a belt change is @ a seat dealers ?

Hi Tombull in answer to your questions yes I would advise you get the belt changed as if it brakes it will destroy your engine. I recently got a quote from seat for around £400 which includes the belt kit and water pump being replaced. Seat recommend you change the water pump at the same time as it is powered of the cam belt.

Definitely change it,i am just rebuilding a 1.9tdi and when the belt goes you are talking, valves hydraulic tappets valve guides etc probably over £1000 to repair.
