Hi,
Does anyone know where/what the camshaft adjuster is and how much it cost.
I've just come back from my local seat dealer in swansea because my eml light was comming on and they told me it could either be the MAF or this cam adjuster thingy, so I asked how much for the MAF £145.64 ,then I did the stupid thing and ask how much for doing the cam adjuster she said "that will be £684 " I thought you've got to be havin a :censored: laugh Then she said "I'ts a 9hr job to strip the engine down to find it "
£700 just to look for a part I DONT THINK SO!!!!!! not only that they charged me £70 to do the diagnostic which they've never done before!!!
Please excuse the rant as this is taking the p*ss if anyone can enlighten me I would be greatful.

As far as the MAF any ideas where I can get it cheaper ?? breakers?? GSF??
personaly I think It's the MAF........ (I hope)

all depends if its the solenoid for vvt or cam sensor but i really doubt it's that .

My VVT solenoid went earlier this year. It cost just over £700 to sort it. About 350 quid of that was the solenoid unit and I also had cam belt and water pump done at the same time.

THe solenoid itself lives on the RHS of the rocker cover as you look at the engine from the front, not difficult to get to but both cams have to come out.

9 hrs though!!! I took mine to a local specialist (PSI Tuning in Newcastle under Lyme) and he did it in a day with cambelt change too.

Your symptoms sound about right though, kinda like you've got a high lift cam fitted?

No totaly standard but it is the wife's car:cry:
Thing is the car's never driven hard and hasn't had any mods at all but it's @
90,000 though so it must be just wear and tear.
Worse case scenario will a second handlow mileage engine be cheaper to
remove and replace or just replace the adjuster solanoid either way i'm going to pay for 9hrs labour anyway ???

Dont know what the codes are but I've changed the MAF and the light keep coming on... but sometimes it goes off by it self, I'm hoping to get a code reader this week and sort it out.
Thing is from cold the car is very lumpy and nearly stals when you try and pull away ,so I'm thinking back to the MAF being faulty.
I just hope I can find the recipt for it or it's another £140 down the tubes

my problem is the car takes 3 or more attempts to start once it starts it seems to run fine just throws up a camshaft position sensor fault code, i would love it to be something like the MAF or something electrical but it seems to be a mechanical fault with the timing, i have changed the cam position sensor but it still shows the code my next thing is to check the solenoid that controls the VVT unit that controls the exhuast cam timing.

Ye, the code for the solenoid has come up on mine but the guys on here said to check the MAF first and take it from there...so until I get my hands on the code reader I'm not going to know what's up.
When I took it to the dealer they said, when they read the code it wasnt in they're book ,and had to phone SEAT technical up to find out what it was , said they had never come accross it before which was a bit strange.
So at the moment Im hoping it's nothing to serious as I aint going to spend
over a £1000 to get it fixed !!!!!
