Hi as the title suggests I've a few questions about a car I'm looking to purchase. The Car in question is a 66 (2016) plate Leon ST with the 1.8 TSI FR 180ps DSG. I've done a bit of research for this but I'm not getting a clear answer. The car is from just before the Facelift, and I'm trying to find out what DSG gearbox it has. I'm aware the earlier DSG's had issues, but have been fixed. And later models had different DSG fitted. How do I find out what version of the DSG box the car has.
Its done 65K and Drives really well. I didn't really notice any issues on the test drive, as I hadn't really looked into them too much before hand,
The Dealer its at is not a VAG/Seat Dealer so might not know.

If anyone has a way of finding out or how to get the information I'd apricate some help clearing it up.

After googling for a bit it seems to have the DQ200 7 Speed dry clutch 250NM. A lot of people are unhappy with it and some have no problems at all. 🤷‍♂️

That's what I mean, I've seen about 50/50 for both.
It has the same DSG gearbox as the 1.4TSi. The torque of the 1.8TSi is limited to allow it to use that version of DSG.
Even though its the 1.8 TSI FR in the Estate?

I've contacted East Yorkshire Retro Fits to see if they might know anything. Their turning figures only show the Normal 1.8TSI not the FR spec. It would assume they are the same, but I suppose the only other thing to do is contact SEAT themselves.

1.8TSI DSG uses DQ200-7F OCW dry clutch 7 speed.
TVS have some info:
250Nm stock torque limit, seems like they have torque upgrades to 340 - 400+Nm!

There are many part number variants - so would think the 1.8 has different gearing to the 1.4

The 1.8tsi had the DQ200 dry clutch 7 speed gearbox regardless of trim level or hatch/ST.

When the 2.0tsi engine replaced the 1.8, the gearbox was replaced with the DQ371 wet clutch 7 speed box.

We've had one of each.

Our 2013 1.8 car had the clutch packs replaced under warranty at 2.5 years old due to a jerkiness on pull-away between first and second. The problem felt like it was beginning to re-occur when we P/Xed it with the 2.0 at in 2020.

I think the brochures, or price list, around 2016 showed speeds in each gear so you can compare the 1.4 DSG to the 1.8. DSG. I seem to remember that gearing was the same.

I've seen this before, and was quite sure it was a different gearing. The Garages and VAG specialist I spoke too seemed to thing it was the same, but couldn't say for certain.

I bought the car anyway and I caved slightly, decided to take the 3 year extended warranty, just as pieces of mind anyway. It helps I haggled the dealer to get more for my part ex and knock a bit more off the price for car so I could get some minor issues fixed. Mostly the DSG "PARK SELECTOR ERROR" that came up in the 20 min test drive twice. Strangely it's not been up since. But I'll look up the replacement bypass switch anyways.
No spare tyre kit, only expired can of goo. Found one on eBay for way cheaper than I'd expected.
Broken cargo cover guide, and have found a repair kit for way cheaper than I'd get for a 2nd hand one, just waiting for it to ship from Poland.
So still quids in, after the extra warranty.

Now it's just a case of subtle styling mods and improving the exhaust/intake sound.

Congrats on the new car. Although the DQ200 isn't the strongest box and the dry clutch wears much more quickly than any wet clutch gearbox, they are very very smooth and nice to drive with if you're cruising around rather than doing traffic light grand prix.

Regarding the selector error, I had a 1.2 TSI Leon ST that did that (same DQ200 and selector setup as yours). Someone mentioned sitting in the car with the ignition on, foot on the brake so you can move the gear selector. Move it from park to sport and back 20-30 times and you may find the light doesn't re-appear for quite some time. I think it's to do with corrosion on the contacts where the selector is only ever moved from park to drive once per journey, and moving it forward and backwards multiple times helps clean it up. It certainly fixed mine anyway! Otherwise the additional microswitch is a cheap and easy fix as a backup.
