I think discounts when paying cash are tough as most of the deals are built around the finance package where the dealer is incentivised. Quite a few people on here have created a deal with the dealer using finance and then cancelled it within 14 days and paid off the balance. Do a search back in this section and you will find a few threads.

I got a White pre reg 2.0 TDI DSG FR with Tech Pack, Convenience Pack, 18" Performance Alloys and half leather for £19500 cash. Only had 10 miles on the clock as I was only the second person to test drive. That's about a £4500 saving off new!
Being the 2nd owner may be an issue for some but i'm ok with it!

there was an article in one of the papers recently said the days of cash discounts are few and far between, the way they do it now is finance contributions, like the 1500 seat were offering then 4.8 apr finance

I was one of a few on here who mentioned they bought demos and got a reduction on the list price with 3-5k miles on. whilst I didn't get the 4.8apr for buying new I thought 7.0 apr was decent for a used car these days

Here in Spain dealers have very little room to move on discounts as the profit margin they get from the manufacturer is very small. Traditionally in the UK margins were high allowing big dealer discounts although this may have changed since I last bought in the UK.

In Spain the deals are laid down by the manufacturer and can change on a monthly basis.

When I ordered my new Leon the total discounts came to about £5500 but some of that came from the government as I was disposing of a Mk1 Leon over 10 years old. The dealer gives you €1200 and the government another €1000. It's all to do with getting old high emission cars off the road and also to stimulate the economy which is pretty dire in Spain at the moment.

There was then a €600 loyalty discount for owning a SEAT. Another €1000 towards extras and €2000 if you took out a finance agreement which also gave you an extra 2 year warranty.

Overall a pretty good deal.

They also do PCP deals just like the UK.

On balance I would rather be buying in the UK and have the chance for a good haggle - no chance here!

Another ex-demo buyer here...3 months old, 3k miles, £6k off list price...didn't think that was bad.

I ordered a new 184 FR in August, I visited my local dealer and they didn't want to give much of a discount at all, pleeding poverty!! I then went to a site called Carfile.net who put me in touch with a Seat dealer who does give discount and their basic price was £2880 cheaper than my dealer (£19495 basic cost) and by the time I had got discount on the options I wanted it was a saving of £3178 and that is including the fee that goes to Carfile.

I took this quote back to the same dealer who I initially saw and he reluctantly agreed to match the Carfile price. When the deal was done he said that they have a margin of 12.5% to play with on new car prices and I got 11.8% discount, with an added £1000 deposit contribution for taking finance on top of that. It was close to the end of the month and they needed the sale so I guess I was lucky.

If they had not matched the deal though I would have been more than happy to go through the other dealer. If ever I buy a new car again I would definately go this route again
