Morning

Im looking to buy a Cupra R 225 this weekend and wanted to know if there is anything in particular I need to be looking for other than the usual?

The motor has (apparently) been remapped to 260bhp so how should I check this? Will this make a massive difference?

Anyway any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hi and welcome Ricky!

There isn't any real way you can check for the remap yourself that I know of but hopefully the current owner has a dyno print out that you can check, ask and see. If not then I am sure you'll know by the feel of the car, I don't have mine remapped and it still shifts but other people on here who have remaps use the phrase "pulls like a train". Take it for a test drive and decide for yourself. I guess you could head down to a SEAT dealer before the weekend and test drive an unmapped car, with the economy the way it is, I doubt the salesman will refuse if you convince them that you are looking to buy. At least this way you can make a comparison between the two anyway.

Onto problems:

- Check that the carpets aren't wet, the door seals (sealant) can perish inside the door allowing water to build up on the side skirt and over flow into your car. Also there have been instances where water has leaked in through the pollen filter.

- Check the heater & A/C work. The A/C and heater themselves are fine but the motor on the twin fans seems to break itself on some cars.

- Finally, listen for knocks and creaks on the suspension. As with all cars, bushes can perish but don't be alarmed if you hear a creak from the rear suspension as Leon's are known for this in the cold & wet weather.

I hope that helps and doesn't put you off :)

More than likely the cup holder will be stuck! Also check interior door handles (the black ones) for peeling of plastic. If its still covered by warranty you can get these replaced for free as i did the day my warranty expired!
