I had 4 Kumho's fitted to my Civic just before winter set in, they coped very well with the snow- far better than the bald bridgestones that came off it.
What do the Leon's come fitted with from the factory - ( my FR has not arrived yet [:@] ) ordered Christmas eve - due 14th May :D

Mine was delivered with Dunlop Sport Maxx when I got my Leon last year. Much preferred the bridgestones that came on my Type R GT.

I'll have a look at the Kumho as I'll be needing two front tyres soon

just had a similar discussion with my local tyre place today as needed 4 new tyres.

They put the Khumo KU31's in the same bracket as the Falcon ZE912's ie. Midrange

They said the Khumos were softer and didn't last as long but that they were a great tyre for the price, if you like to drive a bit harder than normal... In the end I went for the Ze912's as they are a slightly harder tyre and will last longer with the sort of milage I do.

Seem fine so far after.... £300 for 4 all fitted etc.

that's the wrong way round falken are softer tyres! Very grippy great in summer winter weather!

Kumho are the harder compound!

I have run both on a lcr mk1 and the falkens do 7k on the front 18k on the rear!

Kumho do 10k on the front and 20k on the rear does depend on driver!

Here are some more comments about the 712's for you:

"Had these on the rear of my car when I brought it. They made for lots of fun around town wet or dry as you could skid up anywhere but on the open road they're just plain scary. In the wet the rear would slide out at 100km/h. I have since replaced them with Bridgestone Potenza RE001 which are far superior."

"Had these fitted on the front when I bought it. Dry grip is fair but the tyre noise is very loud. Similarly the ride is verging on spine shatteringly bad. Wet grip is very poor, particularly cornering when the front will understeer at the slightest provocation. Leaving junctions in the wet was also a bit of a gamble. Cannot recommend these tyres.
So bad were they in fact that even though they had another year of tread left at least, I changed them yesterday for two Contisportcontact 3s and they night-and-day different. Very pleased I forked out early. It seems you get what you pay for."

"Well what can i say except that this tyre is a true 'Ditch-Finder'.
In the dry its no better than average.
In the wet on an R33 Skyline GTsT its downright dangerous.
Heres what happens, on a motorway in the wet u can't go above 60mph cos if u do, any hint of a bend and the back end of the car just started to slide! And i tried this one bend a few times and it did it everytime in the wet.
Thankfully these tyres are no longer available.
There is a budget brand by the name of 'Admiral' who are selling a tyre with the same name and tread and i think if you value your life, its best to avoid that also.

But Kumho have redeemed themselves with the KU31 which offers about 70% of the performance of a big brand tyre and at about half the price."

Yes the ku31s are the ecstas. I run them on my elise which has >320bhp/ton and they're fine.

Getting a set fitted to the A4 in the next few weeks, for the price and performance, you can't fault them.

I get them from Event mobile tyre fitters.

I've got KU31's fitted by event. He's been out so many times (4) he remembers my car now. They grip well and seem to last ok. Plus they are cheap.

I used to have the 712's on a previous Cupra TDi. They were decent in the dry and wore well but in the wet... jesus.... Damn right dangous!

I would strongly recommend staying away from these even in summer.

I run the KU31s and they are super-fantastic for the price. under £60 per corner from camskill.com (225-45-17). Bargain!
