It's still nice to see another team entering even at this late stage with an old car. WSR have done a fantastic job on the Mgs so it goes to show what can be achieved.

Lots of cars, small track.........;)

What's more two of the three new teams are running with older cars. As you may or may not know Nick Leason's Astra Coupe is the Astra Picky's fellow 2004 SCC rival Andy Neate drove at Brands last year and the Lexi of BT Racing are the old Speed Equipe IS200's.

Regading WSR it is just a shame that it looks probable WSR will get new S2000-spec cars and not stay with the ZS. Because the ZS has been incredibly competetive the whole time. It seems more so as an Independent ZS than when it was a Works ZS.

Paul 'Owy' O'Neill has confirmed that he will be driving the Thurlby Motors Techspeed Vauxhall Astra vacated by Fiona Leggate.

He will race the remaining rounds, Brands and Silverstone.

He should pedal that car very well too.

Good news. Top lad and a handy driver. :)

Excellent new Iain. I have always liked Owy for some reason. Maybe it is my admiration for what he has gone through (his diabetes), and the way he seems to have been able to control it so that he can resume his career.

He says on btccpages.com that it is ironic bio-ethanol is sugar based (although it is 85% sugar beet so it isn't completely sugar based), becuase it is run on something he isn't allowed to have! In fact he goes on to say "I might have to race with a Mars Bar strapped to the dashboard in case I need a boost!"

One problem though. I wonder how long it will be before someone mentions he's the brother of former Spice Girl Mel C!:D

Of the new people to come in how well does anyone see Owy doing in the final 6 races? What I think I am trying to convey is what does everyone think he can do in 6 races?

I don't know what others think of Owy as a driving talent but I think he isn't in the same class as Fiona. I think he's better. Because he is the only one coming in at Brands without Penalty Ballast or Championship ballast I see him getting a few 7ths (4pts), maybe even a few 6th's (5pts). I predict Owy will ge near the 10pts mark for the 6 races.

I say all that from the heart and not from any detailed observance of his driving. I admire greatly Owy. So if he doesn't get more than say 10pts I won't be surprised.

True but I think Fiona had the edge on him in certain departments;)

Why else have my lads got more of her autographed photos than anyone elses?

Still a shame about Fiona as she was popular and trying her best. She has been competing in the Minis as part of the Dunlop Great & British package this season.

Saw her at Thruxton and she was reasonably competitive though still not up to the pace of the top guys. Perhaps she's using the money to build up more experience that way hoping to return bigger and better in due course?

Doesn't he get ballast for entering late, or is it a Turner/Thompson situation with the ballast-less car from Ms Leggate?

I did put that but I omitted it because I don't want to make the post longer than necessary.

Well, he is esentially a new driver (but one who has driven in the BTCC in the past - like Dave Pinkney) but the car and the team isn't. Like Thommo-Turner for us this season he directly takes over her seat.

I think giving a car that has ran all season (apart from Donington and Knockhill) the same 45kg of Penalty Ballast as say Nick Leeson who, although is running an old car, is running for the first time is a little unfair and goes against the point of the Penalty Ballast rule. ANY entries entered after the registration date or LATE ENTRIES gets it. The Tech-Speed Astra is not a late entry.
