Does the Mk5 have brake pad wear warning lights?

I know my Mk4 didn't have wear warning lights so kept a close eye on them but I have not the had the Mk5 very long, so not had to take the wheels off yet. I haven't had a look if the pads have wear sensors on them on front and rear disc pads.

Cheers
:)

I've never heard of a warning light for brake pads...

I thought they designed pads to start squeaking when they wear down?

Loads of cars have them. I think it's basically a wire coming from the pad which connects to a sensor. I guess theres a metal contact somewhere in the pad, and when it comes into contact with the disc then it triggers the warning light.

nah there are two electronic terminals in a small loop, when the loop wears away it breaks the circuit and the light comes on

Nah!!!
Not on the ones I've seen. There are indeed two wires in a loop but that is just for test - you ground the free end and the light comes on as a test. The other end is connected to the lamp and battery positive.

In normal operation when tha pad wears down the disc grounds the loop and the light comes on.

Cars I've had recently just have a piece of stiff wire attached to the edge of the pad. When the pad wears the wire rubs against the disc and makes a scrapping sound. Cheaper than wiring and electronics I guess. I don't know if the Ibiza has this system - I haven't looked yet.
