Brake lights just stopped working.. Help Please..

Hiya,
I am after a bit of help please.
I have a 2002 Leon Cupra 180bhp.

For some reason the brake lights have stopped working.. I checked the bulbs, and one of them had blown, so I replaced it. Still the bulbs were not working, so i checked the fuses in the side of the dashboard.. They all seem ok, so now I dont know where else to check.
Anyone have any ideas as to what else i can try and get the lights working please..

Check your brake switch behind and up under the brake pedal. Also try the search button.

Hi had the same problem on my 04 cupra tdi !!

It was the brake light switch mounted above the brake pedal . I dont know about the 180 petrol but on my oil burner the glow plug light on the dash was flashing to alert you of a fault .

Switch was £7.80 from vw ( local seat dealer hopeless ) and it took about 30 mins to fit . It will log a fault code on the ecu so you may need to get the code erased by a local garage or buy yourself a code reader off e-bay they are about £30 .

How easy is a brake light switch to replace..... i've had a look and i can seem to find it... either that or it's not where i think it should be..... any pointers?

If you follow the brake pedel metal up under the dash you should see a black box with some wires going into it. For memory, the switch is in front of the brake arm. You can take it out without takeing anything apart, but I've never managed to get it back in without taking the lower dash out. Even if you do have to take the dash out, its a 20 - 30 min job and is just a series of screws. Most of these are visable from the foot well, but some are in the fusebox area. I can't remember if all of the fuse box screws need to come out or just two or three that will hold the dash. All in all, its fairly simple.
