Both headlights stopped working

I have a Leon mk1 2004 1.6 and the both of the low beam headlights have stopped working. All of the other lights work, what is weird is that the yellow low beam symbol does not show up in dash which it used to when in third position on the switch, only the green side lights icon lights up.
Things I have tried doing to fix the issue:

Checked both fuses

Replaced with new bulbs even though the old ones looked alright

I tried a different rotary light switch from a friend's golf MK4 and it had the same problem so the switch is not the issue

Has anyone else had this issue with their MK1?

No, but having ruled out the switch and the lights, i'd check the wiring, you must have a break somewhere between the two

You could check the plugs on the headlights. Turn lights on and use a multimeter to check if 12V gets to the plugs. If not, then there is a broken wire somewhere.

I am pretty sure its the headlight switch because when jump the headlight yellow/green and red/black wires, the headlights light up. I ordered a new switch from eBay and ill see how it goes. I have a feeling it wont work tho as i already tried my friends mk4 golf switch and it had the same issue unless his is different as its a 1.4?

For now ill just have to hotwire my headlights lmao

Okay, so far you have ruled out the headlights. That's good. Let's hope it is the switch otherwise you have a wire gimmick between the switch up to the headlight.
