I have just bought one of these https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-Golf-...sh=item4b83033bcf:g:qmQAAOSwlx9fetwA#viTabs_0 which gives you this

Also see https://www.drive2.ru/l/7937465/ where I got the idea

slightly unrelated but I just fitted a second variable boot floor (Part number is 5F9 858 855) which fits on the lower level tier and above the spare tyre.
(I am using my old Skoda Octavia spare which is a full size 195/65 R15 steel wheel and includes the foam insert in the centre for the jack etc, and is a perfect match size wise for the 225/45 R17s on the car, although a 17" wheel does fit in the wheel well OK if you prefer a complete match without affecting the floor in the lower level)

This allows all the jump leads / tyre pump / roof bars and other general rubbish to be kept out of sight below the top boot floor which fits on the upper tier. There is a height gap of perhaps 15cm between the two floors at a guess
The bare metal area where the spare wheel fits is then protected, and loose bits and bobs don't roll around or fall beneath the wheel making access tricky, although a few non scratch items can be fitted around the spare wheel too if wanted eg hi viz jacket or tow rope etc.

Variable Boot floor was about £40 on eBay, and a LOT more at the dealership when I enquired!

Hi, just looking at this thread, did you get all of the parts for the variable floor on ebay? I'd like to fit it but I've seen numbers quoted like £500.... which isnt viable to me.
