I'd be interested to know what's the best solution to this....
Hell even my 1999 Yamaha 250 SCOOTER has a light in the compartment under the seat that comes on when you open it.... WHY OH WHY Hasn't my shiny newish SEAT Ibiza.....??? I don't get it....

That would probably work mate. You would have to fuse it down pretty low though 1A or less. No guarantees on it being 100% perfect under all fault conditions though.
If your doing the glovebox light and ripping the rear bits apart to fit the lamp in you may as well just run the extra wire to the front so that it matches the OE circuit.

So has anyone actually acheived this?? I still haven't! Seems to me the only way to get the light to only come on when the boot opens is to run a wire all the way to the front of the car...

What is the brown / blue wire in the pink connector?!
Is it just a wire to the switch and a ground?! If so then i assume its possible to add any bulb/led that will run off 12v to it.
If so ill attempt this as soon as i get everything ordered!
It was a while ago but IIRC it is just a switch to GND. The wire then makes its way to the comfort module or what ever its called at the front of the car.
It will work doing it your way but under fault conditions there is a chance of damaging the comfort module. Its whether you care about that or not.

IS there not a way of tapping into the wire that makes the interior light come on when the boot opens??

Not long after I bought the car I asked the dealer about fitting a boot light and they drew a blank.
However, now I know I should be able to pick up the switched earth from the pink connector in the boot and I have the part numbers for the lamps etc I will give this a go. If I'm going to pick up the live from the interior light, I may aswell do the glovebox light whilst I'm at it.
Not sure how long it'll take to get the SEAT bits, but as soon as I have them and a day off work I'll tackle the job and let you know how I get on. Just hope I don't break any trim bits

All the trim falls to bits quite easily so you shouldnt have any probs just as long as you have a handful of torx bits!

Torx bits not a problem, got some with an electric screwdriver a while back.
Went to my local dealer today and ordered some parts for Project Gabi (Glovebox and boot illumination!).
Didn't bother with 6L6867761F as the shelf in my car has a cutout rectangle similar to the one in the glovebox roof.
The glovebox light is in stock at another dealer in the group, but all the other parts are to be ordered in from SEAT central parts place. The boot light (the very bit that started me on this search) is out of stock and I think Pedro is going to have to make one, so no idea when that'll arrive.
The parts described as Housing in the lists on this forum, were described differently on my dealer's computer system, namely:
893971632 Flat Contact Housing
1J0973119 Flat Contact
1J0971972 Flat Connector
However, as the part numbers were valid, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the parts are the same and just have been described differently.

When I did my glove box light I found that there was a diode soldered into the light housing (probably only used on top spec audi's with a delay built in or somthing
Anyway this diode means that you must wire up the light with the correct polarity or it will not work
I actually did wire mine up the wrong way round and then came across the diode so I just removed it and soldered a link in it's place
probably the same with the boot light but I wouldn't know as I ain't done mine, I don't think it will illuminate any better than the stick on battery LED one that I have in there now, I can't see the right hand side of the boot getting any light to it

Turned out that the reason the boot light was out of stock was because it has changed its part number to 7L6947101A (made in Poland). New part was in stock so everything arrived at dealers on Friday and I collected them this morning.
I understand now what the housings are all about. The wires only have bare crimps on them and so you have to insert them into the housings. Each housing then becomes a plug that goes into the corresponding socket on the light fittings and switch.
I took the live feed from the interior light as BlackFR suggested and I found that all I needed to do was unscrew the passenger sunvisor from the headlining, pull away the rubber door seal and the end panel from the dashboard. The wire then just tucks under the headlining and down behind the door pillar trim.
I didn't need to remove the glovebox, but did remove the plastic shelf underneath it in order to get my hand up from the footwell and clip the glovebox switch in place.
I added a blade fuse to the live wire and used the connector for this as a convenient way of connecting another wire to carry power to the boot light. The fuse isn't really needed as the interior lighting circuit is already fused, but it can't do any harm.
Unlike joonspoon, I opted to switch the negative wire for the glovebox light rather than the positive. Same end result, but it's the way most car interior lighting circuits work.
Tucked a wire along behind the trim at the bottom of the passenger door frame and the rear panel and into the boot. Connected up the negitive to the wire on the pink connector as BlackFR said, and hey presto!![[B)]](/forums/styles/seatcupra/oldforumsmileys/shades.gif "Cool [B)]")
Everything seems to be working OK. Hope the car starts later, got to be in Cardiff at 9:15 for a training course!

I had a Dot-It LED stick on light made by Osram, but it came unstuck from the trim and stuck itself to the boot carpet. It was never quite the same again.
I like the 'factory fit' look now. It's quite a bright and well angled light, and I find it does illuminate all parts of the boot space.
I left the parcel shelf off to test that the light goes out when the boot closes, and it does
