Just had a rather large service on the Ibiza cupra. The car has felt a little slower recently (only a little) and the car's turbo did sound different. Was petrified it was the turbo on the way out.

Turns out I have a split boots pipe (not sure where). So this will more than likely be the source of the turbo sounding different.

Do you think the car will feel faster when I get it back? Will a split boost pipe effect performance much? I have no idea how long its been like this.

I'm also getting a Pipercross panel filter at the weekend. I’m looking forward to seeing if this will make the car feel any different.

Also got a slight oil leak to the intercooler. Can this be fixed or will it mean new intercooler in the long run?

EDIT: Also when at motorway speeds very rarely if I accelerate at around 2500-3000 rpm very gradually the turbo will cut out completely and go into limp mode. If I turn the car off and then back on again all is well. Is this a sign of boost leak? If so its been leaking for the last year.

Hi mate,

At a guess, if you have a split boost pipe, depending on where it's leaking boost, the ECU may think you are overboosting, and put itself in limp mode to prevent damage hence why it'd be a lot slower.

The car will feel a lot better and should idle and drive smoother too.

It's actually surprising what you can hear when listening in to the engine bay with the car parked up and ignition on, on my old MK3 Cupra I spotted the leak due to hearing a very loud hissing sound at idle, turns out one of the vac pipes had split.

Let us know how the panel filter goes... Im still caught between one of those and a Jetex cone filter.

Well it sorted the turbo sound, its boosts more responsively and feels slightly up on power. I wasn't down hugely before the service; it just didn't feel its normal self and was laggier.

The service was great though, there less smoke, and car is nice and smooth again.

That annoying engine rattle at 2.5-3k is still there though!!!

Get the panel filter fitted at the weekend. I'll post back my results.
