Bonnet Stay Problem

So there I was putting some water into my washer resevoir on the weekend and as I turned away from the car the bonnet came crashing down on its own.

After struggling to get the bonnet open again I could see the bonnet stay have gone through the plastic recess. Is this a common fault? Ive now got the actual arm off and need to replace the little plastic recess I guess? But im not sure, anybody else come across this?

Not had exactly this problem, but I found with my Ibiza that the bonnet can very easily lift off it's stay with a small gust of wind.

I was doing some work with the engine cover popped off and moved to one side - I turned my back and the bonnet came down. It latched shut, but the engine cover was jammed underneath one side causing the bonnet to be badly twisted.
Because of the twist the bonnet latch wouldn't operate....

Eventually I managed to free the bonnet, and miraculously there was no permanent twisting.

So....be very careful working with the bonnet up !

my bonnet seems pretty secure once its on the green plastic bit! possibly because i have to push the bonnet up more than it wants to go before i can get it into the stay.

time for golf style lifters i think! :D

It allegedly happened on my car whilst at the stealers leaving a bump in the bonnet. They didn't call me to say that anything had happened and it wasn't until I spotted it on the paperwork whilst waiting to pick the keys up/pay for the service that I was any the wiser

Funny you should mention the little bump in the bonnet, i've got one of those too! I was scratching my head thinking how would you get an outward bump. That figures, the bonnet has probably dropped before now and exactly the same thing must have happened.

Surely its a design fault isnt it?

sounds like it could be as you say a sticky catch or a wrongly adjusted bonnet.

when you next have the bonnet open geton your knees and watch the striker on the bonnet sit in the catch on the front pannel and make sure it is CENTRAL some white grease ect could free it up a bit to
