Hey all, i was thinking about doing my engine up, and first thing i noticed in other poeples engines were that the engine cover had been taken off and the lining that is fixing on the underside of the bonnet. Is this safe??
Obviously, they are both there for a reason and was wodnering what the technical reasons against taking it out were and is its worth it.
Cheers

engine cover maybe keeps a bit of dust and dirt off your engine top, but has no real adverse effects. i've had mine off for over a year

the bonnet insulation is soundproofing to a degree but does keep heat in the engine. i will take mine off in summer and perhaps replace it in winter

it's all extra weight, get rid of it!!

seriously it's just sound deadening, if you do remove it you'll hear things more clearly so don't get freaked out by all the extra little noises!

AHH OK. was slightly worried that it might catch fire or something. i knew it kept the heat in but even if you dont replace it in the winter, will it have trouble starting??
Makes the engine louder?? in a bad way or a good way.

My car is kept outside. I removed the bonnet lining early last year.

I've opened my bonnet a couple of times in the last few weeks when the car is cold to find the underside of the bonnet absolutely dripping with water.........

(Condensing on the cold surface).

Linings to have a horrid tendancy to trap moisture between them and the bonnet so in a few years (im talking over 10yrs, it's a slow process) you may see some rust surfacing on the top side of the bonnet where the welds are.

You will get a bit of steam off it when it rain's but this is nothing to worry about.
