there are several problems with the factory exhaust - weight, sound, and restricted flow.
the front box is double skinned and straight through, and does a fair amount of silencing.
the rear box is heavily baffled, and goes from 1 pipe entry to 2 pipe exit. this adds weight.
the front exit from the down pipe through the last cat and sensor is followed by a short section of renforced flexipipe with a restricted entry and exit. to view this you need to drop the undertray.
a budget performance exhaust option would be a new, light, straight through rear box with a single exit.
i went for the full custom race option - new large diameter flexipipe into fat pipe straight to
the 1 rear small, round section, straight through box, with a single round exit. all red rubber exhaust hangers are renforced with zip ties and pegs fitted with stops to prevent sideways slip through top of the hangers. i can now hear the ECU cutting the ignition between gear changes, and , when cold, a few pops and bangs.........lovely! the scream at 7,000rpm is serious ear candy. its also nearly half the weight of the factory system.
