Bluetooth Stopped Working - Any thought??

My factory fitted Bluetooth (Seat option) stopped working today. The car radio dropped the bluetooth connection mid conversation and I can no longer reconnect (have also tried with 2 other phones to eliminate any faults with my current phone)

I have pulled out the fuse for the Radio/Bluetooth (as indicated in the manual), hoping to reset the Radio/Bluetooth Communication system, but this does not seem to work.

Even after pulling the fuse out, which drops power to the Radio, and then putting the fuse back after 10 mins, it still does not work. Actually, I do not think that this is really resetting the Radio, as all my Station Presets are still there.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this or experienced this behaviour, before I take the car in under warranty???

Thanks in advance.

Seat SC 1.6 DSG.

I can't really see a reason why this has happened personally. Does it still broadcast the car's Bluetooth connection, Seat_BT I think it's called, or is it not there at all. If not, pop to Seat and ask those that know. I have knocked the mode button a couple of times by accident, you could have done that during the call which could have turned the blutooth off. Seat will know, hopefully it's something trivial. If not, it may be something that needs to be sorted under warranty.

Its not broadcasting Seat_BT at all. I deleted the Bluetooth Profile/Pair from my phone, and tried re-connecting, but it just does not appear.

Have tried 2 other phones, with the same result.

Thinking about disconnecting the battery and then re-connecting, but not sure what this may affect in terms of the car's other functions/operations.

Does anybody now if this is safe?? or could I cause more damage than good??

BTW. you mentioned about "mode", which I assume is the button of control stork. Do this turn the BT on/off as well?? Would this reset after turning the ignition on/off??

I couldn't tell you, I just thought that it might have disabled the bluetooth, it's electronics, it needs no excuse to fail. Sounds like a hardware failure more than anything, those bluetooth chips do get hot, it could have failed. Get Seat to look at it.

UPDATE: Took my car into the dealer to get the bluetooth fixed under warranty. They spent 2 days talking to the tech. department at Seat in Spain. First to work out where the bluetooth communication box was fitted (as this was the first time they have had to fix one on a MK5) and then to establish which part of the bluetooth communication unit was faulty.

Once they had determined the faulty part (bluetooth adapter, which plugs into the bluetooth communication box), I had to wait a couple of weeks for one to be sent across from Spain.

Anyway, the dealer did a great job in getting this fixed, however the real plus point out this sorry issue, is that I appear to have received a newer version of the bluetooth communication software, along with the adapter, as the following is clearly better;

  • Faster Address book name displayed on Radio when dialling
  • Even clearer sound quality (this was already excellent, but now even better)
  • Voice commands which used to be misinterpreted (and required repeating) are now recognised first time
  • The common issue relating to the STORE NUMBER voice command, appears to be solved
  • Name and number text size displayed on the Radio is smaller, thereby in most cases showing both Name and Number without to much horizontal scrolling
  • Picks up my iPhone quicker, after turning ignition key

Anyway, here is what I learnt from the dealer just in case you find your bluetooth in the same predicament:

  1. Factory fitted Bluetooth is made up of 2 key parts - Bluetooth communication unit (a small box) which interfaces with the radio, steering stalk control
  2. Bluetooth adapter, which plugs into the Bluetooth communication unit (I have no evidence, but I think this is a standard USB bluetooth adapter - purely a guess here)
  3. Bluetooth communication unit is located behind the Glovebox. The Glovebox needs to be removed.
  4. The Radio itself has no bluetooth functionality. It is used as a display and pass-thru for sound and Mic

Hope the above provides a little insight into the Seat MK5 Factory fitted bluetooth unit.

What were the STORE NUMBER issues? I'm having a really irritating issue whereby I say 'STORE' when finishing a number and the bloody woman repeats 'Star 4' (*4) instead.

Exactly that issue. Before my bluetooth broke I had the same issue.

FYI try saying "story", this worked for me.

Wicked, thanks! I will try that tomorrow. Does the dealership have to do this update or can I do it myself? Seems a bit daft that they've got these updates and the dealerships aren't putting them on the new cars. I only got mine on Saturday.

The updated software was not installed by the dealer but was already present on the replacement Bluetooth module.

By virtue of replacing the bluetooth module with new one sent by Seat in Spain, I got the newer software.

Hope this makes sense.

Can anyone on here do a Spanish accident? Maybe that'll work.

So I take it this annoying issue can only be fixed by the dealers updating the bluetooth module?
