Hey all! Apologies in advance if this has been answered before but I couldn't find it anywhere via searching.

So was my birthday today. Had to work, so on the way back home I decided to listen to my favourite tracks. Now I always play music on my car stereo system (JVC KD-X230) at around the 16 to 24 volume mark and have been for over a year and a half. Nothing crazy, quite loud but not enough to vibrate the car.

Was feeling pretty special so I had my music on volume level 22 but also with bass boost from the equaliser settings - Nice. Maybe I was feeling a little too special because next thing I know my speakers quit and my entire stereo system is dead.

So I'm not really sure what happened?? My stereo system wont turn on at all anymore, it's literally dead. And because of this I can't figure out if its one of my speakers that has died/killed the circuit or if this is more likely to be a stereo system which has f*cked itself? Worth mentioning that it cut at a particularly bassy part of the track, so I believe it's the music that killed it and not some coincidence.

If anyone has any ideas or thoughts or advice, please give me a shout. I'm relying on someone here otherwise it will cost me alot to diagnose the problem, I'm not much of a technician :D Cheers.

Check your fuses, I had exactly the same problem as you! Listening to music at full volume with Bass Boost on max too. Now I had blown two fuses which took a bit of diagnosing, it was a 5amp one that had gone that I didn't think was related to the stereo but once I'd replaced them it was back to normal again!

It's fuse Numbers F10 and F51 you need to look at.

Have a look at this thread, this was where I found how to fix it :)

Thanks dude!! I'll take a look. :D Question, how easy is it to replace and find the right fuse for it? I love my cars but have to admit I've never put any work into self-repair or modifications (I'm a Chief Engineer, how ironic?) Will any standard fuse do? How long/expensive is it to change?

Oh it's probably one of the most simple things to do, my car had a little white fuse puller in the fuse panel cover to pull the fuses out but if yours doesn't have one just use a set of needle nose pliers to pull the fuse out. Then simply push in the new fuse in the gap where your old fuse was and you'll be sorted! (Hopefully)

Also super cheap too, get yourself some standard mini blade fuses at the same amperage as the blown fuses and it'll take 10 mins max to get the new ones in
