Hi guys, i'm looking to get some high spec speakers for my Ibiza Mk4, i'm really interested in JBLs, Bose and Pioneer branded speakers. what would you recommend the most?

Also is there any particular speakers you could recommend for a Mk4?

Depends on how much your budget is.
and if they'r to be amped or not.

the spl-d 6.1's are very good for only £78 from caraudiodirect.

Im waiting on some Rainbow CMX 265 to arrive.
but like i say depending on budget.

spl's £78
infinity kappa £115
Rainbow slc 265 (iirc) £135
CDT C62 £175 ----very good indeed
Rainbow CMX 265 £260 -- sex

obviously these are all 6.5" components

Leave the rear speakers standard and run them off your headunit
amp the from comps and get a sub in the boot.

well my budget is around 100ish per set so i can imagine i'd get something decent.

is 6.5" the right size for the mk4? im not really good with this sorta stuff

not really looking for a sub, will that vary my choice in speakers? or doesnt it make any difference?

I would highly recommend getting a sub, even if its a 10", they dont take up much space and some of the sub + amp packages about are really good.

SPL-Dynamics Comps £78

Sub + Amp £117 - cheap and in a compact enclosure

Amp for components £63

Thats £258 and i highly doubt you'll get much better for that.

if your new to the audio game, start off with a sub and you will be amazed the difference it makes, it doesnt have to be like a typical BOOMBOY sub where your car is rattling apart from the bass. set it as you like by adjusting the gain on the amp. it should be so that it complements the music and it WILL add a nice depth to it.

So a sub would be the 1st thing to get.

Edit: Just to add to that i wouldnt bother with replacing the rear speakers, when at a gig you dont stand with your back to the stage. leave the standard ones in for rear fill, good front will be more than enough

Once the sub is sorted i'd go onto a set of components up front (6.5" is the correct size in a mk4) for the first few months you could run them without an amp (just off the headunit) and you will notice a huge difference in clarity.

But i would recommend amplifying them to unleash their potential, and by doing so you will get much more midbass and a crystal clear, undistorted sound at pretty much any volume.

and i honestly would recommend the sub to start. really does make such a difference.
Most of my mates just have pure bass and it makes the look like t*ats IMO hearing them come from miles off. have it subtle and it will sound gooood.

Hope that is of some help

thanks, thats helped alot.

one quick question (this may be a stupid one) with the amp and sub combined units, is it not possible to run the speakers off the amp in that?

I honestly know nothing when it comes to audio, I just want a really tight sound, crystal clear. I've always held the stereotype that sub = excessive bass. Looks like theres a bit more to them than that!

cheers for the advice mate, really useful :) are there any speakers you can recommend more which are of a higher price? ive always thought JBLs and Pios were very good

i'm not really that bothered about subs, ive always thought subs give too much bass and thats not the kind of thing i'd like. but if it really makes a difference i would definately consider it

sounds like a great setup for the cash

okidoke.

what is your budget?

really would go for a sub.

prehaps a separate sub and amp may be better as there are some good 4ch amps about which you could run 2chs for the comps up front and bridge the other 2 channels for the sub

around 150 for a set of 2 mate, you think i could get much better than the SPL ones you recommended? no point paying extra if theyre only slightly better

actually that sounds pretty good

I'd go for the rainbows I recommended at the top of the thread for £136 or if you can stretch to £175 the CDT C62's come very highly recommended.

Both shithot speakers but both really do need to be hooked up to an amp to get the best.

If you don't have a amp already go for the spl's and get an amp aswel that should fall within your £150 budget

Go for the rainbows then bud.

Both damn good, but i wouldnt say the CDT's would be worth the extra 45 for a bit more mid bass and a smoother top end.

either way 2 very good sets. plus search about as the rainbows can be got for 125

Could you run that system off a standard mk4 headunit, or woud you need a new unit too?

Some good reading learning new stuff, thanks:)

You'd ideally need a new HU tbh. as the standard one doesnt have any amp pre-outs (so you can hook up an amp)
