It could be the copper grease burning off a friction point, go for another quick drive and see if it still happens.

Does sound like it's just the protective oil coating being burnt off. As Tom says go for a bit of a drive and see whether it's gone away.

You did push the piston back far enough so the pads don't rub while the disc is going round didn't you?

I didn't realise these were new.

I got my brakes done 2 weeks back and they smelled for a few days while the oil burned off...now they've bedded in, the smell is no more!

this piston was pushed right in i can rotate the wheel pretty freely so its only gliding on the surface of the disk but they are basically brand new from golfturbo and still have the machine lines in the disk
also when coatsing the car dosent slow down much no more than before so dont think the pads are too tight on the disk

New discs and pads can take over 200 miles to bed in properly. They will be a bit poo until then. EBC redstuffs on Black Diamonds are the best for lots of smoke. Its just the coating. Nothing to worry about.

Just be careful for a while:)

cheers for that thought it was just them bedding in the pads are slightly curved on the face so prob a small contact area creating lots of localised heat making them very warm doing about 60 or 70 miles tomorrow so hopefully will see a bit on an improvement!! cheers everyone!

its the packing grease on the discs burning off , you should of ideally used a de-greaser on the discs b4 fitting

exactly what i was ging to say, should have cleaned the disks with meth spirit or something first.

Brakes done really need to be bedded in as such, obviously dont fit them and then go into a hairpin bend at 60, to see how much shorter your stopping distance is, but aslong as you dont glaze the pads befor you get through the first layer, then just brake normally.
