So I had my Seat Ibiza 1.0 EcoTSI inspected today, man is it just me or have they become so much more detailed? Last time I did this, they could only inspect it within a 1 or 2 meter radius, minor dings, and stone chips, ok, wear and tear.

This time, the person used mirror like things, a digital thickness measurement thing, and he picked up 2 dents (he claims from other car doors), that even after looking where he's labelled it, I cannot even see nor feel it until after 2-3 mins looking, and that's just such a minor reflection change, that I would have thought it would be classed as fair wear and tear, a much bigger stone chip is classed as so, but to this inspector, it's not, so I got a 'charge' note on my car or £36 per side, total of £72. I think I will very much dispute this...with VWFS. Luckily, he only had an tablet to take the picture with, and quality of image on those aren't the greatest. Anyone else had any similar 'more detailed' BCA inspection these days?

Well it gets worse, the person who was meant to collect the car, didn't call, so I called them at 3pm to check (collection time can be anywhere from 830-1730). Called BCA, they put me in touch with the person collecting, I explained how to get to my place via the underground from Paddington (where this person comes in from), car is parked literally next to the station. Estimate arrival should be between 1600 - 1630 he says. This person decides to disregard my advice, and take the bus (this takes 1.5 hrs compared to 30 mins by underground) which terminates 1 mile from the car is at...He arrives at the bus stop @ 1710, asks for directions...I didn't know where he stopped as he didn't say which bus number he was on, despite me asking him. I finally figured where he's at, tried to direct him to mine, eg...after McDs there's a roundabout, take 3 o'clock, past the tescos, and you will see a high apartment block (mine). He takes 12o'clock ends up further...away, calls me a bit irrate that he's lost and cold, so we decided he should follow his GPS directions...and he would call me once he gets to the station. He calls me 7-8 mins later, I'm thinking, great...hes here..no, he's back to where he was dropped off by bus...this is when he loses it and starts shouting at me, in his words, 'I'm cold, tired, you have been messing me around, I'm going home, get BCA to send someone else to collect the car BYE!' So I never got the car collected! Where do BCA get these people from? My previous cars were collected easily, person called me 1 hr prior, person shows up at the station, I meet him/her. Car is driven away!

Oh no, the BCA guy was coming into Paddington stn, I live in East London (Bromley by Bow stn). I told him go from Paddington with underground to my underground station, a direct and no changes required Hammersmith and City Line. I don't know why he decided to take the bus! Anyhoo, I did contact BCA, and after telling them the story, he said the same, what a moron, he has a GPS, and has the address and that his tone was unacceptable and will be investigated and he can only apologise for that type of service etc...so anyway, the collection will be on Tuesday AM (as early as possible), BCA will pay for the day insurance, and if any penalty charge from Seat FS for keeping the car beyond the contract agreement.

Car collected by a much nicer and not stupid chap. He complimented how well the car has been kept, and besides the obvious couple of stone chips (strangely on the drivers door, and passener door, none on the front), all good, grade A. As I mentioned before (in case anyone feels hard done by at this exercise), the inspector slapped me with a £36 per panel cost charge, for a non-existant dent on the sides of the cars, and gave it a grade B. It took me a good 2-3 mins to finally see what he was referring to (a minor paint imperfection possibly caused by temperature or someone elses door hitting my car, or it could very well have been him, pressing on my car with the digital thickness device) And only when he put another mirror with lines on the other side could I see it. Despite already signing saying I agree with his decision, I called BCA after they have received the pictures (3 working days later), and explained to them, after having read the fair wear and tear policy booklet from VWFS (using the example on a 1-10 scale, with 10 being an obvious sized dent, and 3 being the limit of fair wear and tear, my case I told them I believed was sa 0.5 or a 1) the inspector was nit-picking. The guy on the phone from BCA pulled up my pictures, and agreed that this was not chargeable as it took him a while to see what inspectorwas even referring to. So everything ended well, the saga is over!
