Ive recently been banned for 6 months for having 12 points due to speeding

Just wondered how often i should start my car to warm the engine and if the petrol and oil will be ok??

Any thoughts appreciated

Dont think my poor mother would be able to handle the power lol.
Ive recently cancelled my insurance and had a re-fund on the tax.
May have to sell it....really dont want to though!!..just thinking how much is my insurance gonna be now!!!!

sitting a car for a year isn't *that* bad. but you could make some cash now if you sell it, then reassess it when you see how bad the insurance will be in 12 months.

hmmmm....yeah i dont know what to do really.Bloody love that car though an id be gutted to see it leave.

Think if i keep it ill get it serviced as soon as im able to drive again.

no one to blame apart from myself, but i now appreciate how good it really is to have the freedom of the roads !!!

Yer maybe selling is the better option, a car sat there is still losing money and you get nothing out of it, but if you do sell it, pile the money into a high interest account or mini ISA for 6 months or so, then as m0rk has said, you can evaluate the insurance situation, and move on from there.

Yeah putting the money into an account is a good idea.

Just wasnt sure if the car sitting there for 6 months would have any negative effect on the engine.

May have to get one of my friends to give it a good run every now an then
Me in the passenger seat obviously lol!!

One good thing is if i do keep it....when i next drive it,i think it'll feel a hell of a lot quicker

Just dump the oil and put new in it, then start the car up when your washing it on a weekend and let it warm up for 10-15 minutes, stick sum fuel and oil addatives in the car and start it once a week or 2-3 times a month, you may be banned from driving but theres nothing to stop you sitting in the car and starting it up while its on the drive. Unlucky with loosing your licenece and yeah, it'll feel stupidly quick, ive just had mine in a body shop for 2 to 3 weeks and ive been driving around in a 55 plate 1000cc VW Polo. Bloody slow as foooook, but got the cupra back and booted it and it nearly pulled my forskin back over my head!! Remember, look after the car, and when you do get licence back, try Adrian Flux for insurance, and avoid getting the foot down where coppers may be sat lurking with a crafty camera!!! Goodluck.

hope u dont mind me asking but what happened when u recieved ur 4th set of points bringing the total to 12?

wos it just a NIP and court date?and did u get 6months for an excessive speed? or is a 6month ban the norm?

just ask as on 6 an had a few scares recently which it looks like i got away lucky by braking just in time i think

My final 12 points i was caught doing 65 in a 50...thought i had got away with it as i didnt hear a thing for at least a couple of months...then the letter came

I was given a court date,at the hearing i explained that as im in the building trade, its very difficult to get to work seeing as there are no bus stops etc on a site!!

They didnt give a toss, fined me £95 and 6 month ban.Im pretty sure the punishment differs from person to person, usually anything between 6-24 months, plus a fine.

Cant blame anyone except from myself, but have to admit, there so bloody crafty, none of the points came from a bright yellow gatso cam,3 were from an un-marked st24,which i gave a good run ;) ,an the rest were from the vans parked up on the side of the motorway etc.

Be careful mate.....take it from me..its HORRIBLE not bein able to drive.

bugger mate
i know what u mean everytime i come round a corner an see one of the *******s in the vans i get so paranoid even if im nowhere near the limit they make me so nervous when i drive past

so in 6 months time do they just had ur license back? or u need to take an extended test? my cousin was banned for 18months for DD and after the ban they just gave his license back

im so dependent on my car that if i couldnt drive it i really wouldnt know what to do with myself

good luck with it bud, hope it doesnt come to selling but at the end of the day having the devalue infront of u will be a horrible feeling too im sure

Sorry to here that mate, i would definately recomend a road angel as added protection for when you get the licence back. I thought that they only had about 14 days to send the NIP out to you otherwise it wasn't vallid or something.

I am almost 100% sure that if you done hear after 14 days after they cant do you..

but obviously it seems they can.

Yeh it's 14 days give or take time for it to be posted and get to you, so a couple of days. It's up to 6 months if you were pulled over and given a verbal NIP by an officer at the time it happened.
