Baffled sumps and turbo kits

Ok, so after waiting years we now have a choice of 3 baffled sumps - INA, BDM and Jabba.

SO ... which one is the best????????????


Also we have 3 choices for turbo kits - BDM, INA and ATP (Elim2). INA not out yet but should be good, BDM is good too and ATP ... well not a great track record but probably the cheapest way of bolting on a GT28RS to your engine. DPJ got good results so not all bad.

I'm not counting Jabba or JBS because they won't sell you a kit mail order and they cost £££ more than anyone else.

BDM - around £2800 for the 325bhp kit plus 550cc Genesis injectors.
ATP - around £1700 for their GT28RS Elim 2 kit plus above injectors.
INA - dunno yet.

sump, BDM ones to me remain the best for track use.
Sams will be on par if he adds some detail baffle.

and buying sight unseen is a leap of faith.. good luck with that

The new ATP up-pipe and upper downpipe have really got me thinking, they now allow you to bolt on pretty much any Garrett turbo to your car, so the turbo doesn't have to come from ATP.

I've seen GT28R turbos for £400, the 2 pipes only cost $500, say £300 plus another £40 for the oil and water lines and you've got a 310bhp Garrett ball-bearing turbo on your car for £740!?! Add on a silicone/alloy intake for £60 and it's all done for £800.

That simple isn't it? Ok, ok so I know it's not the best solution but for that price c'mon. :D

Well, well ........... someone has offered me a full LCR/TT/S3 350bhp Backdraft turbo kit for fairly cheap! It is used but according to the seller it's all good. I have spoken to the guy who seems nice and genuine and he is sending me pics.

Get in. I would. Practically the only bit that can "go wrong" is the turbo, and possibly manifold (cracks). If it's a backdraft kit, it would most likely to have been Revo'd, wouldn't it? So no problems with the map/high EGTs etc.

I wonder what warranty BD would giv on 2nd hand?

If I buy it I could always send the turbo off to be inspected, just to be sure it's 100% ok. I've asked Alex about the kit, see what he says.

The guy is going to send me pics of the kit, seems too good an opportunity to pass up.

We are able to offer our turbo kits via mail order if we know the exact parts you require.Many customers already have modifications done to the vehicle which often makes parts we supply in the kits obsolete.As you can imagine this bumps up the prices of the kits and often leaves us/the customer with parts that arent needed.

If anyone would like to any more information please do feel free to ask

The backdraft kit does look good. I bought one of there manifolds way back when doing the Ibiza and it was a nice bit of kit, but no good for my application at the time, but they were extremely helpful.

I have also had alot of stuff from JBS which is very good, the manifold was a work of art.

Its down to budget and goals. a second hand kit is gonna be alot cheaper, Garrett turbo's are reliable if mapping is good. Go for it.

That's what I meant yes, the GT2860RS 0.64 is what I want and this turbo is the GT2871R, the hotside housing was replaced by Owens, seems to be a bit of history behind the turbo so I'd rather have a new one with a warranty etc..
