Avon Tyres - good or bad experiences?

I need new tyres on my Toledo TDI 150 Sport - the Mohawks that came with the car are wearing out on the shoulders and starting to squirm on cornering and slide about when the road surface is damp and greasy.

My local tyre place (that I've been going to since Mk.1 Golf GTI days) suggests Avon ZV3 or ZZ3 from the tyres they hold in stock. Has anyone had experience of these tyres on a sporty Toledo (or Leon for that matter)?

What tyres would you put on in my place?

Zz3's are decent all round tyres, I had them on a type r and couldn't fault them.

Im currently running a set of ZV-5's, cracking tyre :) i swear by Avon's. always used ZZ3's on my Civic Type R. great performance in both the dry and wet. slightly quicker wearing than other manufacturers makes but this is the trade off unfortunately. you will not be disappointed. a whole lot of tyre for the money :)

Thanks for your replies - that's three positives for ZZ3's and one for ZV5's :) I should have known the guys at A2 Tyres wouldn't give me bad advice.

Interested in this thread myself
I have Toyo's on my PD150 and they are quite noisy on uneven road surfaces, but as there are a few thousand miles left in them I will just run them out.
Personally wouldnt have ZZ3's again, after having them on an Octavia TDi Sport, as they were rubbish and quickly got replaced by some Vrederstein Ultrac Sessanta's.
Swaying towards Goodyear Eagle F1's next or Uniroyal Rainsport 2's which I had on an Octavia VRS. They were pretty good.
Keep us informed of which way you go, it will come in useful for me, and make sure you check out Camskill, as they are usually the cheapest around.
Cheers

I'm going to get two put on tomorrow, and once they've settled down we'll see how they perform. The wet weather today reminded me that the old tyres are on the wear limit.

Too much time needed being Dad's Taxi and Christmas shopping meant that I finally got a pair of ZV-5's on today. Too early to tell much, except the old tyres were on the wear limit across the tread and the shoulders had worn slick.

Tracking was out 5'. They've done what they can, but the passenger side track rod is seized solid. Taken out most of the error (down to 1' now) and the steering wheel is still central enough not to upset the ESP.

They say that if I want the passenger side freeing up they would have to get out the oxy-acetylene to heat it up and hope to break it out that way. In the meantime it's been left with lots of penetrating oil on it.

First impressions: TheZV-5's are very positive compared to the worn-out Mohawk's that I replaced. I have much more confidence in cornering, there is less effort to actually turn the wheel (yes, despite power-assisted steering) but I am now much more confident that it will go where I put it precisely, not just vaguely. How much of this is due to new tyre vs worn out tyre is yet to be established. However the initial impression is very good.

had some ZV-5's previously and wasn't overly impressed good for 8-10K then replaced at 12K for the front
Previous and subsequent Pirelli's were edging out 15-16K
Currently running Barum Bravuris so will see how they go Tolly gets driven reasonably hard mind you,
