hi guys!

trying to wire my stereo in but there is no power going to the unit at all. now i know that the stereo is wired up correctly and checked everything twice like earth, power, ignittion 12v and the fuse. the fuse works fine because my central locking runs off the exact same fuse as my stereo.

so i am absolutly baffled as to why its not working anyone know why??

thanks in advance!!

is it a new headunit?, check it all with a digital multimeter its about £7 and the best electrical device you wil ever invest in

Definately check all wires with a multimeter first! And with the ignition turned ON.

I think usually it should be Red = Ignition, Yellow = Continuous and Black = Earth.

However, on a vauxhall astra I once had I checked, with a multimeter with ignition off and got a reading from yellow to black, then all smoke! vauxhall had made black the ignition wire which had earthed when i tested it.

Anyway, if you have followed that, double check all wires as they arent always necessarilly what they should be, and check with ignition on.

Similar to what i said before.

You have all the car wires connected to a plug to connect to your stereo, and you have checked all those wires. However, there may be a chance that the stereo connection has a different wire order on the back, different car makers can change this order, hence what happened on mine, similar smoke everywhere!

It might be that the stereo connectors had the ignition or continuous where the earth should be to mate with your cars plug connector? hence spark? if so then new stereo may be blown, and also car fuses?

no i didnt have my stereo in i have a push start button in my dash and as i pulled my wires through i gave a connection to the audio wires (checked fuses there fine)

my stereo is a sony and sony think smart, my iso adapter have written on them what they are, so i made sure that the right wire was connected to the right wire. saying all this i tested the Watts comming through the wires with a multi-meter and that red a big fat 0!

all fuses HAVE been checked and yeah with the ignition on. i no the wireing is not dodgy because the previous owner took me for a sspin with his stereo in and working fine, and my stero is in full working order as well.
and thanks for the help! keep it comming lol

well if you have checked all the wiring at the connector with ignition on and are getting a reading on the red and yellow wires when earthed to the black wire. then it has to be either the stereo or the way the stereo is connecting to the cars connector?

only thing after that (sorry if its repeating im going through it) is check the stereo fuse itself, check as before the wire order so that it mates properly. If thats so then the stereo must have an internal problem?

ok this is the list I go through:

1) Check with a multimeter power is actually coming through, if not...
2) check all fuses, in stereo and in car, if all ok..
3) You've got some dodgy wiring

OR

1) Test Stereo in another car so you know if its the stereo or not
2) Try another Stereo in your car that you know is working in another

Then you should know exactly what it is

lol my stereo is fine, im sure its the car that has the problem,
i will double check all the fuses, all earth wiring and power leads are connected, all this without my stereo and with a multi-meter.

i will test my stereo in my brothers focus and then will get back to you all with the results, cheers guys!

watts should read 0, theres no load to measure, , volts should read 12 with ignition off and 0 with ignition off, with engine running it should read 14.4 volts, and you should do exactly what truCido says, even though you think the stero is fine, that may not be the case, so swap with a mate for 5 mins and see if that works
